I hate coming to RR shows without a retro so I’ve bought a car just for the weekender in May.
I have some plans for it that I will reveal along the way.
For now you’ll have to sit tight until I collect it on Saturday and the journey to RR weekender begins.

Here it is! Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Mrs Horney taking it for a spin. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr It's a bit battered on the outside but importantly all solid underneath. Even more importantly I bloody love it. it's so much fun to drive! It's an odd bedfellow with my 250bhp Mini and 2021 2.0 mx5 and I can't wait to see th looks of confusion when I take it to work this week. Spec is as follows: 52k 899cc S model Lowered 30mm (think) Spax rear dampers Sporting front dampers (have a set of new spax to go on) Lower chassis brace Sporting ARBs Front end polybushed A bitsa exhaust that sounds amazing 20mm wheel spacers Sporting 13" wheels Sporting seats The previous owner also gave me a bunch of spares which include a gearbox a refurbished head full sporting wiring loom water pump starter motor painted rocker cover and other odds and sods I've yet to sift through. There is a plan, but I'm going to reveal it as I go because it's more interesting. The main aim though is to have it ready for RR Weekender at Goodwood and have it on display on a stand or something. Next up I think will be a walk around video to really get into what's like right now.

Good stuff. I used to have an SX model in black; the most economical car I've ever had, regularly returning 70mpg without trying too hard! Great for parking just about anywhere too.

Mega update time. Since the last post it has had a paint job, stickers applied, new wheels and tyres, a head unit swap and been to a few shows! I'll let the pictures do the talking. First up a PDR guy did his magic to reduce the massive denting and mean less filler needed for the paint job. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr The it was time to strip down for the paint job. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Then the paintwork began. Back home for the first time in a while. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr What better way to test that I've put it back together properly is to take it on sprint day at Curborough right? Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Also went out for a little photo trip on some nice local roads. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr The. exhaust sounds fun, but it looked rubbish. A stainless tip was purchased off eBay, welded on and some BBQ paint used to tidy up the back box. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Then went to Beaulieu for Simply Italian. The previous owner and his family had nick named the car "The Slug" and it had become quite well known through Ben's YouTube and social media. When I bought the car I felt a duty to keep the name and elements that had been there for years. I therefore decided to keep the Slug Club sticker in the back window and the yellow tinted front lights. I was keen to thought it would be cool to have a logo for the name of the car so I asked a friend who's graphic designer to knock one up for me. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Following in from this I took inspiration from the 80's and 90s Uno Turbos for some side stripes that incorporated the above logo. I also loved the Trofeo cars and thought a homage their unstrap would be pretty cool as well. I had a local sign writing firm produce and apply the graphics and they have come out amazing. No pics of the graphics until it made it to the goal of getting to the RR Weekender 22 at Goodwood. Big photo dump incoming..... Thanks. It’s coming along. Still a few more bits to do. I’d like to go all out on the period hifi to get some good sounds, get some good badges for the boot and some square fog lights in the front bumper.

Yes, I like how this is coming together!
Cars like this are not something I appreciated when I was a teenager and you’d see them around lots with young lads in, but I totally get the appeal now.
So much fun to be had with a simple little light car 🙂
And surprisingly tuneable little engine too. I’m sure you’ve seen a bunch of this sort of thing (if you’re anything like me and watch pretty much every YouTube video out there on a car you’ve decided to buy) but regardless I’ll just leave this here…

I miss mine, it was rhe most fun you could have with 41 horsepower.
They're great fun. Cornering? Just turn the steering wheel more and keep the accelerator mashed into the carpet!

Good to see others having fond memories of these. There’s so few left that it gets a lot of attention when I drive it. Lots of pointing and smiles.
I’m getting a bit fed up of the “paint it yellow with a red door” brigade though.

The original headhunt was not great sounding and also had real speed problems playing tapes. A period upgrade was sourced and fitted. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr I have some parcel shelf speakers as well, more on those another day. I took The Slug to Caffeine and Machine for FWDThinking this month and met another Cinq owner there. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr The guys at C&M really seemed to dig the car and shared some pics on their Insta Story that I have stolen. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr This weekend I took the car to a local-fish Abarth meet in Poole. I would love to find a decent graffiti wall down here in Kent, near Rochester.
But nothing I know of.
Nice pics.
