After a last minute panic where the washers decided not to work I managed to get a pump from Euros for a tenner and then dropped the car off for its MOT.
Amazingly it passed with no advisories!! The MOT tester said he couldn't find a single thing wrong with the car and it was in much better condition than a lot of the much newer cars he tests biggrin

A very brief update. Yesterday an extremely important addition was made to the OAP!

Ever since I bought the OAP I haven’t been happy with the seats. They’re bloody uncomfortable and if I’m in the car for more than an hour then I start to get back ache etc. I’ve been wanting to replace with something a bit more supportive. As much as I’d love a set of BMW sports seats they’re well out of my price range. These E34 seats popped up on Facebook yesterday so I did some reading up and found they would fit with some very minor tweaks! So today I went and collected them. These are the seats They need a bit of a clean first and then I’m going to get some brown fabric dye for them so they sort of match the rest of the brown interior. It’ll bug me if they stand out! To be able to fit them I need to remove this bracket from each seat rail and elongate the hole underneath very slightly. Once all the brackets have been removed I just need a long M10 countersunk bolt and a spacer under the rail to lift the front of the seats up slightly, and Bobs your Uncle!

E34 seats? When I had an E34 I went the other way, bought some sport seats that had been in an E28 and had to have the brackets welded on 😅

When I did that conversion I welded a plate to the top of the seat rail where the bolt goes through. When you remove the plate the allen bolt is only going through the thickness of the seat rail. It also has a smaller surface area than a torx bolt as fitted in the rear. You could just fit a metal plate as a washer. You are trying to mimic the E28 seat rail which has more strength in that area. It is only of importance if you were in an accident.

A couple of months ago on the way back from my Grandads funeral the OAP started running like curse word! I just about managed to limp it home with absolutely no power and promptly parked it up. Roll on to last weekend and I got the car over to my Nans house and into the garage. I started checking the various ignition components which were all ok. I chucked another set of plugs in just to rule them out and the car was still coughing and spluttering. I also decided to drain the fuel out and put some fresh in, again just to rule it out as an issue. That also made absolutely no difference! Next step was to carry out a compression test. Unfortunately it would appear the engine has next to no compression on a couple of cylinders. The next step will be to take the head off and see what’s gone wrong. I’m assuming it’s either a burnt out valve or worn piston rings. I have decided to start documenting it all on YouTube as well as updating this thread. I’ve never done YouTube videos like this so bare with me haha.
