This is an unfinished project that I'm finally admitting I'm unlikely to finish any time soon. It's an original 1964 V8 four-speed car, UK registered in my name as YHH 430B as a historic vehicle, so tax and MoT exempt. The price is for everything, the car and all the parts which include nearly 3 grand's worth of new bits.
Album of pics here, will add to it as I find more parts!
I bought the car as a rolling shell with the intention of building an FIA compliant historic circuit racing car. Life and health issues got in the way (and I can't get a race licence now) but if you want a historic racer or Trans Am replica, here’s the perfect car. I was going to build it to Appendix K spec for more places to race it and better resale value, but I did speak to the organisers of the Swinging Sixties series and they were happy to accept it with a later, larger small block which would make it a serious weapon.
The car is still an unfinished project and is currently a rolling shell with the engine and box fitted but sitting on the old suspension parts in order it can be moved. I put new floors in and reinforced the torsion bar mounts, K frame and LCAs following the way it was done on the period Chrysler race cars.
No other structural welding is needed. The paint could be repaired and made ok for a race car or patina replica, which was my plan, some bubbling/crazing on doors and rear quarters and areas that were damaged when it was in storage but not beyond saving. If you wanted a really nice job and stripped it I’m sure you’d find a lot more work to do but depends how fussy you are - if you’re a fan of ‘patina’ you’ll love it :-D
The dash is there but is missing the gauge panel. I found a '65 gauge cluster that I was going to adapt to fit.
New windscreen and rubber (specific to early A bodies, expensive!) - not fitted
All glass there, though missing some trim.
All lights, new headlights but buckets need adapting. Grille has been repaired but looks good.
Interior trim and bumpers are missing, though most can be bought from the States.
Stock steering wheel.
Have 2 race style buckets seats plus a worn out original drivers seat.
Good '64 273 V8 - not the car's original but correct good running motor bought from a MMA club member's Valiant when they put in a 408. Installed with Holley 2 barrel, dizzy etc
Original 4 speed with HD clutch fitted
Good radiator of original type
Car currently has 7 1/4 rear axle with good brakes and is sitting on drum fronts. Drums are new and unused, fitted along with other new brake parts by the previous owner.
14in steels with 3 old but passable tyres (the fourth has started to bulge recently so not strictly legal but hold air for moving the car around)
Dual circuit master cylinder
Parts with the car
An early A body 8 3/4" axle casing and 4 halfshafts, plus a 741-type centre section - a 3.23 CW&P and rear drum brakes - these axles are hard to find now, I imported this one from Nashville. The diff will need rebuilding, but I can put you in touch with someone who can do that for reasonable cost, or they can be bought outright from the States as the diff was used in lots of other vehicles.
2 spare 14in steel wheels
New Cherry Bombs and piping and bends to make dual side exit exhausts
NOS rear shocks
Later larger A-body radiator
2 extra rust-free doors, stripped and blasted
s/h Blue holley fuel pump
Remote oil filter set up
Original type Carter 4 barrel for rebuild plus rebuild kit
original type 4 barrel inlet manifold
Spare 273 engine for rebuild (late sixties for the heads with the later type inlet manifold bolts)
1 NOS KH disc
New pads and shoes
Complete good Kelsey Hayes front disc brake set up including spindles - this was a rare option on the 64 but were homologated for racing.
Holley 4160 750 carb, NEW
NEW Weiand inlet manifold
NEW boxed Addco front and rear ARB kits
£500 of other NEW parts: bushes (mostly poly), ball joint and rod end boots, new camber bolts, speedo and handbrake cables, front shocks, brake cylinder kits and hoses, etc
Cobra FIA spec race seat (out of date, but new and unused)
Pair Mickey Thompson rocker covers
Probably more lurking in boxes and benches
Will throw in my Mopar books and manuals with the car.
Although I’ve put a lot of work into the car and spent a lot of time and money acquiring parts, there is still plenty to do and I am not getting the chance, despite a burst of enthusiasm in the middle of last year, I’ve recently lost some of my workshop space and could really use the money so biting the bullet and putting it up for sale.
Car is in Camberwell, South London and will need trailering and a van for the parts of course. PM me if interested, welcome to come and view it as I know the pictures aren't great!
