Looks like you’ve got yourself a project there for sure, but will be worth it once it’s done. This is my one (we’ve had it 25 years now and I’ve rebuilt it a few times 😂) Minispares and minisport are the normal go-to for parts, but also worth checking somerford mini and minimail too

I get a bit nervous with rust but I'm sure far worse has been restored than mine, yours looks great! whats the spec?

Welcome to the rollercoaster of mini ownership, looks like a good starting point and all standard mini areas for rust, very similar to what I dealt with on mine. I have an 87 mayfair, but I did a full nut a bolt rebuild a few years ago and it's now a 103bhp 1330cc beast with no mayfair resemblance. As mentioned Minispares is generally the best for most parts (I find some minisport bits to be lesser quality). Worth joining theminiforum as a TMF+ member as it gets you discount off Minispares once applied to your account (among other things), will make a bigger saving on your first order than the TMF+ membership cost. Also worth noting even at Minispares the quality of rubber components/seal seems shocking currently, as mentioned somerford can help with this as they have the biggest range of Japanese rubber parts, other companies offer J bits too so worth looking around, will cost you more but will last much better. Have a picture of my mini (black one) with a sidewalk from our local club meet.

Thanks Miniman! signed up to TMF, great advice and info on there which is good! Your mini is basically my ideal mini, love a black mini! Where abouts in the country are you based? Have you ever done the London to Brighton?

Brace it up well, don’t cut too much out at once, measure twice cut once and all that lark!
TMF+ is a worth while for the discount alone. Have a look at some of the Build threads. Helps give you an idea of what is worth buying at what isn’t, heritage isn’t always the best.
Had my “67 Cooper 9 years now and numerous others alongside it. They get under your skin!

Nice project. I got one a supercharged 998. Will enjoy watching you get it back on the road. 👍

Who are you getting to do the body restoration?

You're a brave man taking that on. All the best from a serial BMC owner in New Zealand.

Love a Mini - I have had 7, and currently enjoy sorting my plastic fast one (Midas). I reckon the Pavement is one of the nicer looking special editions - I like the Kingfisher Blue paint (can't call it a Sidewalk as we're British)

Standard Mini rust present I see . One of the reasons I’ve persisted with my SPi is that despite the fact it’s had a bump, sills, floors, flitches etc are all original and not too bad. It’s currently stashed at my brothers body shop but he’s started mentioning it so I might actually have to go down there and fix it Certainly far from the worst Mini I’ve seen brought back to life, and it doesn’t look like it’s been got at too much, so hopefully not too many horrors lurking when you get it stripped

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

My brother has a Mini Mayfair in for restoration for a customer that bought it new. Even though it didn’t look to bad he suggested a new shell but the customer wanted her Mini. The only panels that he hasn’t replaced are the roof and rear seat back. Even the front bulkhead needed changing as the existing one had been cut out of another car and welded in at some point in its life. The Heritage panels are pretty good.
Looking forward to the updates

I haven’t had it up on the ramp yet so could possibly be worse yet but think it’s fairly original, it looks like it’s had a wings at some point as there’s filler in the panel gaps!

Have you ever done the London to Brighton? No problem a all. Cheers, black is great but hard work keeping pristine! I am from Cambs around Ely area. Have done L2B several times, not for a few years now though but is definitely an awesome day, just need to get as close to front of convoy as possible to avoid too much queuing all day.
