Hi all
I bought this late last year as an antidote to my Copart companion that was frankly doing my nut (another thread on here). She also joins my brother’s immaculate ‘91 T16S.
This car is an ‘89 oduardo grey 3 door Trent tuned looker, that we picked up from its former owner in Manchester in November.
Here’s the happy moment (mine behind, brother’s in front) just minutes before we realised she had practically no brakes and not a lot of suspension bushing!
The resulting 3 hour drive home to Wiltshire was utterly terrifying; how this car passed its MOT is beyond me!
Here are the basic details:
130,000 miles
4,000 miles since 2008, during which time she doesn’t seem to have had an MOT!
5 previous owners (I think)
Trent stage 1 tune, still digging through the history.
Clutch and gearbox seem fine and strong.
Most internal electrics work, aside from the usual eccentric electric mirrors and weirdly the dash air vent on/off switches are all set to off, and can’t be turned on.
Type 8 primaries, which means she has a higher top speed (less high res at cruising speed also), but is slightly slower off the line.
The guy we bought it off, caused us some consternation, but kind of was actually fine, but very definitely did not want too many questions being asked. He wouldn’t allow us to test drive the car any more than on his tiny drive, for ‘corona reason’, but I suspect because he knew we’d find the brakes out for what they are if we did. He claims to have been offered £8,500 sight unseen and an offer to send a low-loader to pick it up, but he certainly had a lot of interest; he showed us no fewer than 20 different people messaging him. To his credit, he held out for us to arrive after we’d secured the car with a small deposit (either that or we were the only suckers willing to fork out!)
But in order to get the car we had to play along to his tune; we kind of had to just grin and bear it and check the car over as much as allowable.
He has a number of cars, including a mint Carlsson, and had only owned our car for a matter of months, having bought it off the previous owner, who had owned the car since 1999.
Brakes and suspension bushings aside she seems good, and luckily Martin at Jam Saab, who has been invaluable on the black curse word copart disaster, was able to see the car the next morning.
He and Justin took her out for a test and then got her up on the lift. My brother and I had spotted repairs to the boot edges, and had found some surface rust under the back seat, and some light rust, bizarrely in the rain gutters, but the front tunnels are okish and the engine bay and front cross member is very clean, as are the doors (mostly)bonnet is good and boot for is good too: phew.
Martin confirmed she needs a bit of attention, but overall he declared her a good car, much to our relief!
She’s at Jam Saab for a suspension and brake refurb, which are essentially as without she is downright dangerous.
We’ll be fitting a buffalo leather carlsson interior, after we’ve cleaned and fed the leather - we found it from another carlsson owner in Bedford last week; it’s not by any means immaculate, but with a bit of love will be good. We are also fitting a set of new tyres and super Aeros, as the tyres in the car are 13 years old!
Because of the brakes, I haven’t been able to really give the car a good shakedown, but she pulls very well indeed with the Trent mods in place and the sound from their stainless steel full system is lovely.
More pictures as and when.
Hope this is of interest.
