Over the past few months I've been debating on replacing my trusty old Clio with something else, not that there was anything wrong with it, more of I fancied a change. However me being me rather than going for something newer I wanted a bit more of a rolling project. I had been looking out for a Rover 200 Coupe as they are getting rare and values are on the up. I went to view a couple however they either need to much work to get on the road or the owners wanted to much for them. I got a little bored on my day off and decided to have a look on my local car auctions website to see what they had going through that evening and I stumbled across a Silver Mx5, 2 previous owners and with only 45k miles on the clock. Now in 2017 I briefly owned a Mk1 but unfortunately that never made it on to the road due to a huge Mot failure on rot which was nicely hidden by underseal. Not 1 for being put off other Mx5's, I Jumped in the car and went down to have a look, expecting it to be a wreck I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by this.
Yes the number plate says Smoky! There's a bit of bubbling around the rear arches and someone's painted the lower part of the sills black but after a good look underneath it didn't seem that bad. I went back down later that afternoon, put a few bids in and brought it home (roof down of course),
1st driving impressions were very good, engine pulls cleanly, clutch and gearbox were good and the car generally felt quite tight, slight knocking coming from the rear and the EML is on but for what I paid I'm buzzing. So what are the plans for this? Well I'm going to sort all of the maintenance bits out ie service, cambelt, fluids etc, make it look a bit more presentable before some mods take place. Since purchasing about a month ago, I have used it daily and it has been pretty much faultless and hasn't failed to put a smile on my face.
