Ok so my six wheel RRC went in for its MOT yesterday It passed, but the emissions analyser threw a wobbly because it's making less co than it did last year Now, last year it had a disastrous td5 conversion, and shortly after that MOT I threw in the towel and replaced said boat anchor with a rebuilt 200tdi I know I'm the antichrist because diesel, but neither the tester nor I could understand why this appeared to be listed as A Bad Thing? Anybody enlighten me? Or is this just another example of those in their ivory towers?
Edit - my tester did say that the system had been playing him up all morning

No, on logbook as diesel, and tested as such last 13 years 🤔

I'm struggling to understand why it had a wobble? Have they got the latest emissions tester, the one with the bluetooth OBD dongle for the newer cars?

You're not the only one who doesn't understand! It's far too old for all that Bluetooth obd stuff, it was the old pipe up the exhaust and a cable to the pc It was the pc that flagged up lower emissions than last year, I just don't know why it should be an issue?

Are you sure your tester is using the smoke meter? You don't measure co on a diesel only smoke opacity and the system would not relate to last year's test. You test as presented not what's written on the V5.

Well, for a start diesel emissions testing doesn't check for CO! Only smoke opacity And if it has a standard 200tdi lump in there now, instead of some ropey TD5, it should be less smokey

If the pc has flagged it then the tester has entered the details incorrectly, it shouldn't even be looking for CO on a derv.

Could be my confusion then, I just know that it flagged it up as being a problem. I'd used the term co as a generic emissions one, sorry for the misunderstanding Thanks All

It specifically noted that the emissions were lower than last year

The only vaguely similar event I can recall is when the EGR system on my A6 “stopped working”. The happy side effect was that it passed the opacity test in one pull rather than needing all 6 and filling the workshop with smoke as usual.
MoT man observed that he knew exactly how I’d done that, but wasn’t complaining!
