Hi all, my name is Luke and this is my Mk4 Escort, I've owned 'Purdy' for 3 years now and bought her as a completely standard 1.3L shes far from that now as you will see below...
P.s sorry I took 3 years to upload this lol
First mod was a set of 60mm lowering springs, the ride was absolutely shocking but she sat nice
Next was a set of wheels that I managed to get off a mate just before retro rides gathering 2018 15 inch RS accessory wheels
A nice RS 4 spoke steering wheel upgrade was also needed
Gaz Coilovers came next, along with some polibushes and new suspension arms on the front
Next was one of my favorite parts of the car, the awesome Recaros! arguably one of the best seats in the world!
had the centres retrimmed to match the original L spec interior
Rear strut brace added to help the rear turrets cope with the coilovers
So it was about now I was starting to get pretty bored of the 1.3 engine. Going on various drives with mates and having by far the slowest car wasn't much fun at all, so I decided to do something about that...
I decided the engine bay needed a bit of a tidy up while the engine was out the way
Engine mounting from DA Performance Engineering
In she goes!
Suzuki Gsxr1000 throttle bodies fitted up to a Danst inlet manifold
Quick mock up to check clearances
The fuel system was a bit of a ball ache! I didn't want to run an RS turbo fuel pump so opted for an efi xr3i tank but couldn't find a mk4 escort sender assembly so it has a mk3 fiesta zetec one instead, fuel gauge is a bit iffy but I'll source a proper sensor at some point
MX5 fuel filter keeps things nice and tidy
Is this an omen??
Alternator bracketry from DA Performance Engineering, cvh alternator with a ribbed belt pulley fitted (borrowed from a vw T4 with a bit lopped off the back of it lol)
Fuel pressure regulator from Danst
ME221 ecu mounted in the glove box
Coolant pipes sorted with some joiners a junction piece I had made and two 90 degree bends, also had to fit an xr3i radiator and a mk6 escort top hose with a cooling fan switch mounting in the hose, mondeo zetec thermostat housing fitted with an adaptor to run the escorts temp sender, ecu temp sender fitted at the bottom of the housing
The old girl had some company for a couple nights
After a few wiring issues (the main plug to the ecu had 4 broken wires!!) she started and ran on her base map and drove home
oil catch can added
The finest trumpets ebay has to offer! probably not gaining anything but look pretty cool, again these will be upgraded at some point
I thought I'd best make her stop a bit better! Fiesta ST150 brake upgrade
And that pretty much brings you upto date. She's been set up on a rolling road and made 178bhp which is a nice upgrade from the 60bhp she made when she was new. I know there are probably bits I could of done better but hey I'm not a mechanic, just a receptionist, not bad for a pen pusher I'd say! Massive thanks to everyone who helped out along the way.
