Afternoon retro folk!
Long time lurker and irregular poster here promising to get a bit more involved:)
So... let me begin by telling you all a whimsical tale of how I fell in love.Once upon a time, there was a devilishly handsome bloke.. Around 10 years ago I spotted a blue pre-facelift 250CE W114 in a local salvage yard (Furber's at Prees if anyone knows it). I immediately fell in love with the 3 box shape and got a tad giddy over it's stacked headlights. Alas, it wasn't to be... the car was so unbelievably rotten it would have been way beyond my capabilities back then and completely uneconomical compared to their values at the time, so i walked awa (showing amazing restraint for a young lad with a grand burning a hole in his pocket!). SInce this day, I have not been able to stop lusting after one...
Fast forward 10 years and what does a more capable Gareth do when he's just sold his house and has some change... goes car shopping of course, and buys a classic car sight unseen off ebay from miles away with no way of getting it home!
i bought this in November 2019 from a chap down in Milton Keynes (I'm in Shropshire). From what I can gather it was laid up for a few years and passed through several people's hands before landing firmly in mine. I drove it all the way home with only a couple of minor problems; like losing all brakes on the motorway in traffic. I still have the ad pictures on my laptop so here they are...
Since purchase I drover the car as my daily for 6 months to get a feel for it and note anything that needed sorting. To be honest, for a 50 year old motor that had been laid up, it performed it's daily duties admirably with only minimal fuss.
I then set about starting the restoration and modification.... I'll follow up with the images etc of these and do a proper catch up once I've collated everything onto my laptop this weekend.
Hope you've enjoyed my ramblings!
