before replicating the right side i have to correct a couple of mistakes from the past. One item the lower area behind the rear wheel was looking to heavy, so i cut it away. From far away it is looking strange, so i do it again very decent not adding optical weight again in that area. Normally that area is invisible but from some view and a couple of meters away the harmonic lines look interrupted, hope the new version will fix that when shape is ready i am able to finish the rear lip too

So once you are done with all the overmoulding and shaping on the car, are you going to be able to rescue the original Miata or was it disposable from the beginning?

Ordered a pair of sidepanels for my new side vents, made from fiberglass so integration should be easy to do. Parts are on the way the rear lower lip is coming nice, only problem i realised i have to change slightly the shape of the body, lines don't fit as well as i was hoping painted the lip to see exact where my problems are, will be solved in one of the next steps When i started the CB5 project building the roadster for my own was the only target, sometimes things change so with the Coupe going in serial production i have to rethink a couple of items . First i had to repair my broken right side window lifter. For the roadster, using the original softtop it wasnt that important. Now for the coupe with complete changed B-pillar i have to have the window in closed position to see if i created new problems. Repaired i found out that i couldnt open the door anymore in full up position. Changed the B.pillar to sort that problem first trial of a solution to be watertight and create less noise the rubber sits more tight than OEM. The mounting profiles are from the roadster top because the profiles from the hardtop are not available anymore. With the OEM rubber from hardtop it will be a easy and tight solution for customers. next step will be to finish the edges from B-pillar again

So once you are done with all the overmoulding and shaping on the car, are you going to be able to rescue the original Miata or was it disposable from the beginning? This MX5 was bought for parting out and keep my others running. The transport back from UK to Germany again will be more expensive than the car is worth. If the body would be free of rust i would think about. Thats the problem the MX5 have, its cheaper to buy another one , so only beloved cars will survive. I think this one has to die to save live for a couple of others. Being the buck for 2 new versions the coupe and the roadster will be the last reason this car is still in one piece. Never running the car i have no emotions with, my first MX5 i restored was killed by a 18 year old lady hitting the car from the side , happened first week after a 3 year restoration. I still have that car in a garage and will restore it again, even it makes financial no sense. i was proud about, 3 years work, a lot of special parts, exact like i wanted. started test drives to set up suspension and sort out small things to be finished........ was a sad day, but was happy to survive with nearly no health problem, was close the lady kicked my car against a truck from oncoming traffic so hitting the wall was the better option! When i have time it will get a second live maybe as the first CB5 roadster, financial i should kick it away,

The car appraiser from insurance calculated 14.000 Euro repair costs to get the car back to condition it was before the accident, i got at least 4000 euro from insurance because thats a MX5 NB is worth in good condition and easy available on the market.....

2 things i learned: My next restored car will be insured to get the money back it costs to build or get a a car in exact the same condition it was.
Second , iam extremely careful seeing a huge headscarf in a car i pass, for me its clear one of the reasons that accident happened was the limited side view that muslim lady had wearing that big stiff headscarf, i am a liberal guy but in public traffic they should be forbidden, for same reason wearing a helmet in a car will cost you 15 euros if police catch you, they tell you its not forbidden but if your helmet reduces your side view its not allowed to use! If you look very close you can see that headscarf on the accident picture.

The B-pillar is roughly ready now, have to work on details like different radius i still have to shape. It has now the slim decent look from outside even all in all its massive to get enough strength to avoid body shaking and noises next will be little reshape to get a nice even line from B-pillar to rear end. When happy with i can start with copy and paste for left side

Fitted rubber to check , nice and tight, quess i will have no problems later on with vy now one of the next things will be to sort out the wavy side line under the rear window. After fixing i can start to cut left side B-pillar and fixing the 2 roof panels together Cult not resist to cut the new side panel to check new side vent in real first trial to see better i applied filler i guess i will set the vent a little more to the back for a more harmonic look, all in all i like it and will start with the wider wheel arches Comparison of both vents, still like them both, my Coupe will get the modern one, lets see if the roadster will get the classic version which version would you prefer to see on your car?

I like the modern twist on the vent, probably more than the more classic look. I too would have suggested something like painting it mostly body colour and having that center bar in a contrasting colour. Could be chrome, silver, black, depending on the body colour of the vehicle really.
I do like the directon you've gone with this project. As much of a following the MX5 may have as a great little fun car, visually they've never been very appealing to me. The original one was just a bit weird looking, the later one was just too japanese, too little distinctive in design style. A problem car's of the past 20 years in my humble opinion very often suffer. But what you are creating looks very nice and much more appealing to the likes of me.

The MX5 is one of the most underestimated cars i know, the fun you have driving them is incredible , little more power, little better brakes and suspension tweaks its the perfect fun car, still analogue feeling but with the comfort of power steering ABS brakes and airbags. A little like a modern classic car. From design its at least ok, nothing special, a cheap japan car, maybe one of the reasons people add a lot of parts to make it special and with more character. Not a lot of people stupid enough like me changing more or less the complete car, but for me it starts to be my dream car, with a nice Jaguar 6 cylinder engine it will be perfect.... lets wait and see

Was busy the last week so not a lot of news, started today with the left side rear, placed a couple of styro blocks for rough shaping the end of the roof. now i can start to copy roughly the shape of the right side. After a couple of hours it looks like this Now a couple of templates have to be done for the correct shape. First time the lower lip is visible , will be finished with the lower left rear end

next step is placing the side window in position, looks like a big mess but its nearly in position The B-pillar has to be cutted now and 2 templates to be sure everything sits in same position like the right side

B-pillar is cutted , now integration from side window can start Couple of sessions with filler and sanding, still a long way to go Starts to look like a C-pillar, when shape is ok i have to lift up the upper line of the rear wing. Till now the rear wing is still the roadster shape, Coupe ones are higher and slightly different from shape

looks like i have a lot to change before coming close, starting with the design line nearly every line is different, changed the right side 8 times so i have to change every line and height designline has the right radius now, have to add again height in some areas. With the right height i can start reshaping the wing
