I've been offered a crossfire in a car trade. It's 3.2 litre 6 speed manual. Service history & full mot. I know nothing about them except they look kind of retro cool. What's people's opinion on them & faults?

I think they are kind of cool, lots of merc bits in them. Engine and trans i think? They arent a sporty drive more of a cruiser but i liked the auto that i did a long trip in.

Its basically a SLK with a different body. Quite reliable old things - my pal has the V8 version and has been rock solid for the past 10 years. P. Edited as I put CLK when it should have been SLK

It's an R170 SLK in a different frock, built by Karmann in Germany, they're generally a nice place to be - if slightly plastic looking inside.

My dad had one for a few years and only sold it as the cramped door opening was making problems for his back. Very reliable, no issues except for a broken spring once. Inside is pretty tiny, but they're quite fun and drive pretty well, although they're a lot tamer than they look like.

I really like them, and suspect the price/value is right, or else you would not be asking.
I think they will suddenly, sooner than later bacome worth having.
The shape certainly does it for me.
And to be honest, in this country with its draconian road law enforcement……. A cruiser is the perfect place to be.
Another car I would not object to having on my drive, though the comment about cramped access makes me think my back would object every time I picked up the keys.
Just do it, it is different enough, as long as the price is right enough for you to recover from, should it prove to be the wrong flavour for your picnic.

I looked at one a few years back...found it to be uncomfortable, with really cheap and plasticky feel, and built on an ageing chassis even then.
Looking at the comments here I'm clearly in the minority...

V6 ;-) If it were my money I'd be looking for an equivalent CLK or SLK, or if I was feeling really fruity XK8s are beginning to fall to a similar price point.

Quick update - Never fully clicked that Chris car was left hand drive until I called him to ask if it was a V6. It came to him with an AMG V8, not sure if it is factory or retro fit. Originally a American car which might explain it. P.

They did do an SRT model, not sure which engine is in them but would assume the supercharged V6 from the SLK32

As far as I am aware they only came from the factory with the Mercedes V6 3.2, either normally aspirated or supercharged in the SRT-6.
I think any V8 would be a conversion.

i think anything imported from usa/europe is pricey i know when the cousins left for perth they took their mercy’s with them as the prices were eye watering for replacement against the cost of import and test etc
