Some of you may remember my '77 924. I' ve had it for a long time now 8 years maybe? I bought it unseen from Gumtree, got a one way ticket to County Durham and drove it home to Coventry with a big smile on my face. It had been painted badly in Vauxhall Flame red and had a 944 front valance grafted on but almost everything worked. Over the years it has lost the front valance and gained a 924 turbo one. Had a new front panel and wing bottoms. Smoothed rear bumper and full respray in the original Brocade red but in satin. Vinyl roundels on the doors and bonnet, custom mk1 Golf Crystal headlights and Peugeot steel wheels. Full suspension rebuild with polybushes and front and rear ARB. New clutch and fully rebuilt brakes. K-jet fuel injection removed and replaced with Kawasaki ZX9R carbs on custom manifold and a high lift cam Custom RS style door cards, custom headlining, Raid steering wheel and Innovate AFR gauge.

Well this is a modern Cafe racer if ever I saw one. Great work. Scrolled to post the exact same thing, the embodiment of the "British Style" of build. Simple but effective.

bit busy earlier to give a longer post
must admit i have thought about this a few years back going the outlaw style with a 924 prices were rock bottom then but now prices have jumped again it looks very unlikely it will ever happen
magnus walker has also started buying 924/944 so they will continue to climb no doubt ….he’s even bought a 914 and the prices have risen sharply on those too
funny how 1 man can have an influence like that

Yes they were dirt cheap, I bought this for 2k after selling my mint E30 for the same. Good luck getting either for that now on the road. It's definitely a keeper, I could never afford a classic porsche again after kids and big mortgage . It's such a fun car to drive. I used to daily it when I 1st got it but now it only gets out on sunny days and shows. After driving a modern shitroen van all week and the Beetle it feels amazing to jump in and go for a rip.

These engines also respond quite well to a bit of turbocharging. 350bhp on a stock engine with just a fresh headgasket was not to hard to reach. Clutch didn't survive it very long though.
I Linda start to like these simple models, i still prefer the wider 944 but also see the simple charme of the 924.
Audi v8 swap in a 924 with sleeper appearance would be nice..

That looks amazing. There's something about the early spoilerless cars on steels, but yours is next level. Is that a blanking plate over the stereo, or is it deleted/relocated? I assume the bike carbs are easier to DIY than the K-Jet?

I love this. Soooo cool! I had a 924 13 years ago. They were dustbin money back then, and spares availability was great with so many being scrapped. Now it seems 924 prices are on the rise and the Boxster is the new cheapest way into Porsche ownership. I still think the 924 is reasonable value, and I’d love to see more being ‘outlawed’ like this one.

I had nothing but trouble with the K-Jet, there are so many variables and things to go wrong. Going to carbs was the best thing I did. The initial fitting and tuning took some time and trial and error but they've been on for 5 or 6 years and not had to be touched or balanced again.

That interior is absolutely delightful - red on tan is a great look. The steels work way better than I'd have assumed. Great work.

I like that ! If someone had said steel wheels on a 924 I would have laughed, but they are an excellent choice.
