Great to see another SJ getting some love, as you have found, they do enjoy rusting in their spare time... As you know, you have an early 'skinny prop' SJ410 which has a slightly different driveline than the later ones and SJ413s. Wouldn't be too bad to put the Swift GTI engine in, while it's apart you could swap over to the later drivetrain, as you mention it would involve a bit of cutting and welding for new engine mounts at least. I've always liked the metal dash in the early ones, yours seems to have a later steering wheel fitted to it. I'm sure I have an early steering wheel stashed away somewhere if you're interested? Keep going though, it'll be worth it in the end, they're such fun little things You don't still have that steering wheel do you?

Nice to see this, brought back a lot of memories, if not put in with a press rear wheel bearings have have habit of 'walking' down the shafts pulling the halfshaft out of the diff, simple solution is a couple of tack welds on the retainer.

You are actually my new hero. I've lost count of how many points during that story I would have binned the lot, had a massive strop and probably moved to Pennsylvania and become Amish.
Your dedication is nothing short of stunning. Nothing really to add other than best wishes for the rest of the project and health to enjoy it!

This is looking good now, much fun to drive, hired one in Thailand a few years ago and loved it.
Definitely not a fan of that Nardo Grey - Looks like clear coat over primer, a fad I hope passes soon.

You don't still have that steering wheel do you? I'll have a look when I'm next at the unit and drop you a PM - hopefully still stashed away!

I got this painted and partially assembled since I last updated. Inside, outside and underneath was covered in about 3.5 litres/ 200 quid's worth of paint. It's Porsche Crayon Grey. I found a complete carpet online also, have been looking for a year: Still needs a buffing and a few bits touching up again, but painter is a bit busy. Have been having a bit of a faff getting it started - sometimes it starts as soon as you turn the key, but there seems to be a problem with the starter absolutely killing batteries. Earth cable is hot, and it turns fast, drains the battery and then slow. It does start the car, but obviously isn't great. I'm missing a nut to go on one of the wiper spindles - Japanese Metric Fine 1.25 I think and I can not find one on any car in the scrapyard or at local nut/bolt engineering place. Also missing a rear plastic arch. It clonks and bonks driving it, but I think I need to check every bolt on the car, and the rear brake pipes are blocked, or the compensator underneath is suspect. Brand new rad - hole in one of the channels. Ugh

I have a real soft spot for these and having just come back from Gozo (Malta) where they're bloody everywhere I now have a rekindled love for them. Mostly Maruti's I think but perfect for the roads out there. You've clearly had your work cut out but glad it's all coming together. Shame about the rustoleum, I did my van a few years ago (the T3) and it takes a while to get it right. I found using mohair rollers was the trick but even more than that (and like any paint job) it's all in the prep. Yes, it's a cheap way to paint, but spending a bit extra on materials pays dividends. I'd love one to run around in now but not sure I'd get one past the boss nowadays

I might have a rear arch. If you are looking for one?

I might have a rear arch. If you are looking for one? I am, is it the skinny type? I'm also looking for the handbrake drum off the transfer box as mine has cracked.
