Some good stuff going on there. A suggestion for the wooden bit, as it is turning into a bigger bracket, would it be worth making it thinner with an edge to stiffen it and a thicker bit round the bolt holes. Pic will explain it better. Keep up the good work. don't think for a second I have forgotten your build and some of the details! Certainly a possibility depending on what happens on the way to making the upper a-arm mounts. One of the things I learned building the Miata/Volvo mashup was to never commit to any design just because you started execution, If it can be done better, spend the time and $$$ to do so. even when it means re-doing stuff.

As always, especially in the early stages, these projects seem to evolve. After a bit of thought, it was decided that the strut style suspension from a newer civic would be easier to adapt. Here it is in the rear with the big pieces close to where they need to be. The track will fit inside the Morris fenders at this point and the struts will fit inside the body envelope. Next will be building same structure to tie all the lumps together.

While the pace might seem slow, stuff is happening as the envelope gets defined. Track width is set Frame rail separation is set Frame rails are square and level on jig Rear suspension A-arm location is set with mounts tacked in location Plopped the (Honda ) seats in place to see how space will fill up as major parts are added. So far I am pretty happy with how roomy the Morris is. There will actually be a bit of room behind the seats for groceries. Still debating on if we should install the HVAC from the Honda in the space behind the seats ( cause AC ) or just carry on with feeding the art-deco Morris heater from the new cooling system.

while it seems completely logical to use the front suspension from a front engine car, when using the engine from a front engined car. that also means adapting suspension designed for steering, when you don't need it to. its unnecessarily complex, relatively weak and some horrible geometry to overcome (bump and roll steer)

And it remains to be seen how problematic those are when the car goes for the first spin. Not meant to be a performance car by any means so high limits are not the issue. Suspension characteristics will be mitigated by having minimal suspension movement with stiff springs, so " any suspension can handle if you don't let it " Safe handling will be the goal. and design revision is always an acceptable option.

It is still moving along. The frame is under the body to make sure that it will fit the envelope. It does, just. I got sidetracked by the Riley that needed some rust remediation (posted here) plus the Molvo ( if any recall that adventure) got a new cam, intake manifold and carburater. My partner in crime is just getting his sub $2000 MGB V8 on the road. Hi is racing winter to get first drive. Then once the weather is too cold to work in his shop, we move into my nice warm shop for the winter and work on this. The piece on the top right is going to be the upper strut mount, It had to fit inside the body with the strut straight up. It will. Still need to determine the exact height so it can be welded in place.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The car has left my shop and gone to live in my friend's shop where it is getting a lot of work done. The chassis is a roller and the engine has been rebuilt. Even though it is only a couple of blocks from my house, I have not been to visit for a while. Being the Ford nutjob that he is,he sent me this picture. Note the MGB front crossmember rather than the originally planned Honda front suspension In the meantime, I have moved on to finishing detail-stuff on the Molvo that I have been putting off for years, and the new Fiberglass 31? Hot Rod that I am assembling for a long-time friend. Old-school rod with a nutbar 427 Chevy big-block. AND there is a Healey 3000 on the way for some rust remediation, so it will be a busy year.
