Do you know what I didn't need? Another car. The 800 is a handful and a seemingly bottomless pit into which I throw my money. The ZX, while now dialled in, still needs some finishing. A sensible man would say 'no more' and concentrate on getting those two sorted. However, I am not a sensible man. So, when someone on Twitter offered me an MG ZR 105 with MOT until February for a mere £200, who was I to say no?
When it arrived, it was... less than impressive.
Hmm. Mouldy. But, it fired up first time and it seems to drive okay - though not taken it far. It was full of junk, there was also a hole where the boot lock should have been. The lock mechanism was instead in a bag. It's also a wee bit rusty, but nothing structural. Just arches and stuff. I can knock it back and treat it without too much stress. It's already thirty-twelve shades of yellow, a bit of rattle-cannery ain't going to hurt it.
Spent a few hours on it yesterday cleaning all the moss off it. Took an age, and it's not a job so good it will have and pro detailers sweating, but it was a big enough transformation for me. It's actually a pretty solid, fairly straight little car. I was going to punt it on, but I think I'll have a bit of fun with it first.
Yes, it has odd front seats. You pays yer £200...
Plans? First of all, service it. Got all the stuff here. Just need to find the time. Will also clean up the engine bay, as it's pretty hanging. I'll do the cambelt and pump when I get paid. I need to work out if this has an auto or manual tensioner first. It needs new tyres, and new brakes wouldn't hurt it. Then, I don't know. It's only done 60k, but it's evidently been a hard 60k. I don't think there is any sense in trying to make it a minter. Maybe some sort of track car with a focus on handling rather than power? Sell it on? Time will tell.
For now, it can be a part of my fleet of old junk. I like its silly yellow face - it makes me smile.
