I’ve owned and run CXs for 30+ plus years, mostly petrol turbos and now really struggle to find most other stuff interesting to drive. However, I’m not blind to their (many😂) foibles so at the start of the first lockdown (yawn) I took the opportunity to buy a solid but neglected Turbo 2 project car The main areas I wanted to change/update were Shonky old Bosch and Citroen engine control components and wiring, Air Flow Meter, etc.... Heating and ventilation which as many will know is simply laughable on a CX Metric tyres A bit more grunt However, there’s some wonderful stuff that I want to keep. Wonderful steering, ride and composure. Epic interior and seats, brilliant and relaxing mile eating ability and of course, still arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever made 14 months later, I have a car running on stand alone engine management which has dispensed with all the old stuff, AEI unit, AFM, and fuel computer now gone Uprated clutch -Helix Turbo diesel gearbox for longer gearing Bespoke stainless exhaust system Brand new heat A/C unit, pretty much done but already blowing copious amounts of air compared to normal An epic burgundy leather interior New 16” T-Slot alloys, etc, etc.... The following pictures should explain a bit more

Oh that’s terrific. I’ve had a couple of CX’s both Douvrin engined, a 1980 Athena and an 88 Croisette. Almost bought a green ‘76 2400 Pallas in 1983 but bottled it - bottled it again after test driving a S1 Turbo.
I’d spotted the 16” T slots on one of the FB CX groups - excellent work whoever developed those. Look forward to seeing how you improve the ventilation, that stopped me getting another one.
I’ll have another one day.
Bookmarked.

Thanks for all the positive replies, I’ll keep updating and try and answer any questions along the way. In a former life I used to build and run Group C cars, both in period-late 80s to early 90s and then built and ran the same cars in historic racing so I sort of know how things go together but a road car is a very different proposition and even more so doing it outside on a gravel drive......! Anyway, it’s always been well known that these cars were very understressed 180ish bhp and 220ish lbs/ft torque from a pushrod low revving 2.5 turbo lump. Back in the day there were the infamous Maikonics kits which very cleverly ‘tricked’ the AEI unit into not retarding the ignition when the boost was upped and these kits shoved the power and torque up to 250/300 ish respectively 😜 but this kits are now like poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo and still use all the original electrics etc... My car now runs an Emerald ECU, which is virtually plug and play and still takes its signal from the crank sensor. It’s also running Denso motorbike coils on the spark plugs instead of a coil pack and leads. Emerald developed all this with/for me and have been SUPERB to deal with, albeit very very busy! They actually own a T2 and with 1 bar boost (0.7 standard) their car is pushing out roughly 240 /300 bhp/ torque, so that’s the aim for mine I’m leaving the running gear standard, it’s all pretty tough and basic, if clever stuff. The brakes, while not huge are immensely powerful and it’s not going to get ragged🙄 on a track or anything silly like that, it’s for whooshing across continents in self levelling loveliness. I’d already had a full stainless exhaust made for my other GTI Turbo when that one disintegrated so it was just a case of getting another one made While the engine was out I sent the car to Plaeides in Cambridge to have all the engine bay and inaccessible hard lines for the hydraulics completely re-done in copper, so hopefully that’s a potential worry for the future sorted The heater A/C unit I’m using is a Kalori unit, it’s about the size of a large shoe box and as I’ve ripped out all the original ludicrous heater tower/flaps/motors/ducts I’ve got space to mount it so it just protrudes through the firewall a bit, but I can keep the interior and dash 100 standard, including obviously the radio between the front seats I’ve had the heater blowing through the original vents and screen ducts, with some trunking and a bit of fabrication and compared to standard it’s like a Gale!! The new 16” T-Slots have been made by a guy in Germany and they are beautiful, I’ve always thought these cars HAD to run these style wheels, they’re so iconic, and although not cheap £1100......I will now be able to run modern 16” rubber rather than old Michelin TRXs Here’s a few more pics, one of my dear old black one a day few more project pics and an idea of the final look and colour I’m aiming for....the Alfa front wheels are obviously only temporary so I could at least get it MOTD and driving with modern rubber......

That aircon compressor looks interesting. Is it much lighter than the other one?
Even if it's not, the shorter body might help my mate with a packaging issue he's got on his E46. Might I be cheeky and see if you can measure the length of the body?

More progress. This was one of those 1 step back, 2 forwards sport of jobs. Fitting and making brackets for the new A/C rad. Off came the bumper, fan assembly and the intercooler so I could access it all. Anyhoo, new rad fitted, all back together, another fairly big tick.
