Blimey, things drop down the order on here quickly! I will do a photo dump imminently of some progress for all who aren't into vlogs. For any that are; ta-da! On a side note, if anyone genuinely knows of a t sport corolla, celica or any other transverse 180bhp ish 4 banger toyota that is in need of a new home for little cash.. I have said home. I think a swap is imminent

Pho-tato dump I printed a little grease cap for my shifter tower because the inevitability of getting grease on my trousers was too much. I welded in some proper seat mounts, this was fairly involved, had to drill some of the old mounts out, add harness mounts and continuously pat out the underseal fires. I made my own harness bar, welded it in, again lots of little fires, which given their proximity on one side to the fuel filler.. Quite scary. In theory this is all to the blue book-not because it's a competition car, but because they seem like a sensible standard to strive for given the fact these are things that are life preserving. I originally had the car totally stripped out, but given the nature of the car the trim weight is absolutely negligible and makes it a nicer place to be when nipping to the shops. Main weight savings are from seat removals. Currently ~45kg down with another 10kg to lose if I swap out the passenger seat. Given all the trim at most weighs 10kg.. Adapted to haggard OE brake disk covers to accept my ducting 3d printed some inlets to replace the knackered fogs. These are now all connected up and haven't yet wrapped themselves around a driveshafts or anything which is nice. And I made a heel-toe friendly throttle pedal. Not shown is the plate I welded on with captive nuts to replace the old plastic pedal that was pinned in. The pedal is adjustable up and down via the holes you can see and I have printed some spacers you can stack beneath to adjust it fore and aft. This was quite simple but I'm pretty happy with the result. Massive difference in ergonomics when driving-for the better.

Nice pedal and brake ducting mods. Get a picture of the back of the pedal if you can.

All has been quiet for a while, couple of failed projects, other commitments etc. However, I'm taking delivery of a celica 190 this week, so I guess the 2ZZ swap is go..

By the looks of the backplate you're ducting air to the wrong bit. Air needs to go into the end of the vents nearest the centre of the disks.

Let the copious swearing and questioning of my sanity begin.. I have a lot of things I'm very much crossing my fingers for-namely driveshaft compatibilty. By the looks of the backplate you're ducting air to the wrong bit. Air needs to go into the end of the vents nearest the centre of the disks. Okay thanks, I'm going to attempt to swap on the Celica brakes as well as the lump so will have a look at this. Yaristhrottle Onassis! Eh? Eh?
Eh?Oh, suit yourselves! I had to google it.. But I like it.

Okay thanks, I'm going to attempt to swap on the Celica brakes as well as the lump so will have a look at this. It's a very common mistake that people make, even aftermarket companies. Vented discs work like a centrifugal fan and pull in air from the centre and throw it out from the outer edge, hence why can improve things by putting cooler air into the centre of the disc.

Thanks for the explanation In other news this turned up: On a less positive note, it doesn't work. Turns out it never stated it did run, but also didn't state that it didn't. Hopefully nothing too drastic, need to have a poke around.. First things first a compression test, if it gets through that I'll breath a sigh of relief and carry on.

Compression tested it. What we have here is the dummy engine and ancillaries/loom etc for the conversion. :')

Ah man that sucks! Finding an engine for a good price shouldn't be too bad though right?

Can you turn it over? They're quite prone to sticky valves and the lift bolts playing silly buggers if it's the VVTL-i

Ah man that sucks! Finding an engine for a good price shouldn't be too bad though right? Indeed, always a risk when buying totally unseen of uninformative auctions though! It's my own fault, must have confused it with one of the others which was listed as a definite runner! On the very face of things it seems quite hard to find an engine for sensible money, the bonus is now I can get a bare long engine and have all ancillaries etc. Hopefully they pop up for a few hundred quid here or there. Can you turn it over? They're quite prone to sticky valves and the lift bolts playing silly buggers if it's the VVTL-i It turns over fine, I was suspicious from the get go- it turns over too fast. It doesn't sound buggered though, no knocks, clicks, bangs etc. My theory was/is someone had buzzed it and just dinked all the valves rather than absolutely mullered it. Hoping to nab a fancy borescope from work tomorrow and have a look at the piston faces for signs of impact...

Definitely look like timing out compressions those. Probably better off having the head rebuilt, we do quite a few and they're always knackered, got valve play like a 1256 Chevette gear change.
