Been past this garage in swadlincote a few times and often wonder what the story is behind it...everythings thick with dust. Its been locked up and deserted for many years. The prices on some of the windsceens are very....... retro! On a totally different note... keep finding these squirreled away, mucho want one!

That garage is actually in Church Gresley, nr. Swad. I lived just down the road from it in the 70s and 80s. I remember my folks buying a Hillman Imp from there, must have been about 1973, reg. was ENV596C. It was either grey or green. That was Mother's run-about. At the same time, Father bought a brand spanking new Citroen GS1220 Club...metallic green. Wish I had that car now. Jon

That place has popped up on here a couple of times, it's awesome! I really want it to stay exactly like that.... at lest for another decade or so. If I were a rich excentric i'd have a huge showroom filled with borderline retro exotica, and just lock it up forever. It would make a fascinating place to peer through the window of. Wonder if the Princes trust would sponsor such a venture?

Hard to tell how long that lot has been stood, we`ve got a C-reg Astra at £495, now if we say a K/L reg Astra would do £495, the difference in years is 7, so possibly 7 years they`ve been stood, but that doesnt take into account that the sort of money you get for bangers fluctuates, nor whether or not this guy`s prices were realistic, and to be honest in some areas there is such a drought of cheap cars that you could get £500 for anything.
Maybe they`ve only been there 6 months and just want a wash off and running for ten minutes!

most cars have been stood in the garage for about 8-10 years now the yellow metro did have a competion running on it "win this car for £1" but nobody tried to win it so still sat there the beetle has been there even longer about 15 years was originaly up for about £4'000 the owner used to trade quite a lot of cars but these never seemed to have moved i live in swad and havn't seen any movement there for ages and pass it a couple of times a week i believe the land has been sold off to builders (bellway at bottom of hill) for re development i'll repost if i can find out any more info

It was like that in 2001 when I drove past and it looked like it had been deserted for years then. From previous discussions about it the favourite theory seemed to be that the garage somehow had disputed ownership and as legal wrangling took place the garage stood and the cars rotted. I wonder how long it will remain like that?

Ha, small world, I thought someone on here would know more. Be a shame if it gets pulled down for housing.... imagine they'll all get crushed bar maybe the beetle. Cant imagine the average mainstream builder would appreciate BL's finest !

It will be a shame if it gets torn down. But if some of you live local you could always leave a note, asking the builders doing the demolition to maybe let you remove the cars? No harm in trying

Wierd, and I love it! That Astra is beautiful. Want! For goodness sakes vicsmith don't tell me you have a C reg Astra for sale! I havent got the T/M/(strtrictly speaking) S (either). Its not a 3 door estate is it? I saw one on the M60 Saturday, I wanted to pull it over and do an attempted purchase!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'd buy the Maestro, because (as strangers keep telling us old car owners) I learned to drive in one of them.

The Beetle's DVLA search came up as:
Date of Liability 01 07 1989 Date of First Registration 01 03 1972 Year of Manufacture Not Available Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1285CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour GREEN
It's been off the road for 18 years! Be interesting to see if, with a fresh battery and some fuel, if it'd still fire up. I've often heard tales of old cars lying dormant for years and somehow coming back to life with a sip of fresh fuel and a jump start!
Actually, might be interesting to see if ANY of them still function with no engine repairs!

Don`t worry, you`re safe, I didn`t mean "we have a C-reg Astra" as in I`ve got one. Although one will come along, in a week where I`ve bought 2 Sierras and just missed out on a third anything could happen. I did have a C-reg Belmont, 1 owner, 50k, original dealer hanger and accessory brochure last year, sold for £400. I reckon that would have been your avatar had it been here now! I think the Astra is the one to save out of all of them, the driving experience is brilliant in them things (speshly 1.6, no PAS)
