The battery box is now finished and mounted with the battery standing on its end to use minimum forward space. The M6 terminals don't lend themselves to attaching crocodile clips so I had a charging point from a BMW or something like that in stock and that has got over that problem. The engine bay fuse/relay box is now bolted in for the last time, I hope and the loom taken through the bulkhead. The cables will be clipped in place.

The AC plug is more likely to be compressor specific than Ford specific. Search by the make of the compressor instead of the make of the car.

The AC plug is more likely to be compressor specific than Ford specific. Search by the make of the compressor instead of the make of the car. I put a post on the Locost site and I think they have come up with the answer which is great news www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304426939820?hash=item46e14275ac:g:t1YAAOSwuBhiSsyx&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAABAFHUAc%2FkVAGsyPp1r6G71onfVwJBA7S6v0HCGkj7FiL4Getting the accelerator cable to fit to the pedal involved a lot of machining and fitting. I have no idea how the makers of the pedal box expected the cable to fit but my solution works and the cable always has a straight pull thanks to the ability of the sleeve to which it is fitted to rotate as needed. It was a struggle but we got there.

I'm sure the euphoria of the first startup is something we can all relate and even after many first startups on the various projects, it never diminishes. The buzz is always there and so it was in this case, heightened by a small drama in which I feared i might have frid the ecu. I hadn't realised that it is the relay coil earths (fuel pump and cooling fan) that need to be connected to the ECU and not the 12 volt side. Fortunately, the ECU was not harmed and once the correct connections had been made, the engine started without a problem. The engine is a £100 jobby bought from a scrapyard but it is really sweet.
The ECU has been mapped on Mark Shilaber's dyno and the combination of the ECU and Jenvey direct to head throttle bodies upped the power by a whopping 36% with no other modifications.
Here's a short video of the event. The tinkling sound is from the air trumpets being loose on their mounts. I had removed the air filter backing plate for access to the main earth connection to the block and hadn't nipped them up.
So, for me, quite a momentous occasion and I just wanted to share it with you.

Well done John. First start is always a happy day! Indeed it is Rodger, thank you, so happy that I've stopped work for the day while I'm on a roll. My intention is tidy the hanks of loom filling the cabin and do a bit of detail work to the wiring but no more for now. My next job is going to be making a start on the buck for the front bodywork which I've been looking forward to for a long time.

Good to hear from you, thank you. I'm really glad you still visit this thread because I would appreciate your professional eye and your thoughts as I develop the buck for the front end which has got to blend in with the rest of the bodywork and look right.

Really enjoying this build John. Make great strides.
What kind of buck do you plan on making? a wooden or wire one?

Nice to hear from you Hazen. I hope you're keeping well.
For the front, I'm planning a station buck made from 12mm plywood and MDF. I think this rather than a wire form will lend itself better to the task and perhaps make it easier to get a symmetrical shape side to side. I don't know if you have come across Gasolini's YouTube channel but he uses a wooden buck on his scratch build which lends itself to being able to insert steel tubes bent to exactly the correct profile. He does a cracking job and the whole series is very watchable.

I'll have to look into Gasolini. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sandra the upholsterer dropped over the dashboard today which as it turns out, is the last job she's ever going to to. I have no idea whether it was this job that tipped her over the edge and persuaded her to retire but as she put it down she said, I never want to see that again But she's done a cracking job and I'm delighted with it. I've been asked to do a short walk round video showing the work so far so here it is.

Mega job, OP. I can't imagine ever being this skilled, even if I got to live my life all over again. Regarding the mystery car comments, if I was able to create in this way, I'd be at every possible car meet, every possible weekend, just to hear all the "is it a...?" comments, followed by the " No! It's a..." comments from their mates. You then step in, a quick polish of the bodywork and say "I made it..." before retreating with the smuggest of smug grins! I posted this a couple of years ago, and always check in on your progress. As it gets closer to completion, I'm thinking it would be great for your "fan club" to see it done and dusted, would you post details of any shows you're attending with the car? I'd be willing to travel if work allows, as would many others I'm sure... ...or maybe an unveiling at an RR event?

I'd be willing to travel if work allows, as would many others I'm sure... ...or maybe an unveiling at an RR event? You are so very kind, I'm just gobsmacked that my humble project with all its flaws and mistakes has generated such a response. Thank you all so very much. Completion is still a long way off, with the doors, the potentially hardest things for me to make still to come. The station buck isn't going to be a breeze either because I'm not that great with woodwork. So lots of challenges await but it's the challenges that make the project so involving and enjoyable. I'm not a great one for car shows but the thought of getting back to Prescott which I know well or Shelsey which I have never done are another matter and a RR event at one or other of them would be something I would love to do. So, let's think about that. I'm a bit concerned about the gearing on the car because the diff is 3.23:1 and the type 9 is fitted with a close ratio gearset with a long first gear. If it proves too much, I do have a 4.1:1 cwp from a Regal van that we could use.

Just a quick update. Unfortunately there is a fault on the ECU so I have sent it back to DTA for rectification and that has prevented the eagerly awaited first drive and we were so close. But never mind, there's plenty to be getting on with. So, currently, I'm developing the buck for the front end which is an interesting exercise. I'm indebted to fellow forum member Horrido for his invaluable assistance along the way and for producing the fantastic artist's impression to which I am working as closely as I can although, by necessity, there are some detail differences. Here are a few photos showing where we are as of today.
