Working on an 02 series (?) engined van - it's an MG montego 2L turbo lump with no turbo, just a big SU carb.
It's got a cam end-mounted rotor arm and cap on the front, a crank sensor on the back end of the block, I've been trying to get a spark for a week and have concluded the ignition controller is TOASTED and I can't get another the same anywhere.
At this point the only viable option is to get an aftermarket ignition controller, however I have nowhere to mount the sensor in the distributor because it was never designed that way, the existing crank sensor appears to be a hall effect sensor which provides a 'one shot' of low resistance every time something metallic passes it - but the resistance is still too high to drive the likes of a sparkrite controller - and even if it did run, there would be no ignition timing adjustment.
Left me scratching my head with it really, I either need a recommendation of a setup that will really work, or I'll have to butcher a lucas distributor onto the front of the camshaft and run points instead.
