Classic mk2 rust but at least you knew you'd find more went you went digging. I’ve had a few and, although they weren’t as old at the time, I was fully prepared for 30 year old rust issues. I was hopeful that it wasn’t as bad as it was, but at least I was ready for it. There’s still a lot that needs to be done, but this was one of the more pressing areas due to knowing what it can hide. There is a section of bubbles along the front scuttle that are quite bad too, but budget wasn’t there to cover this on the same visit once the level of work required here. I might look to get that done in the meantime, otherwise I’ll just keep trying to save for a full restoration job. If I can do some of the areas that would help at least.

The underseal may also have some hide some rust.
I speak from personal experience.
Regardless, you've got a lovely example there.

And now with the colour back on the rear quarter, just waiting for me to pay the bill and pick it up. Can’t wait for the weekend! Next run will be down to Silverstone for the BTCC, then it’s back into the garage for me to strip the interior, sort out any spots I find and learn to weld! Fun winter ahead!

Peach of a motor. I used to own an identical car and colour but twas an Oettinger conversion. Loved that car even though it was pretty grotty.
Good luck with yours

Long time no update… I’ve had this tucked away in the garage all winter and dragged it out about a month ago for a local meet. It’s now time to pull my finger out and do a few things. I know there’s a few surface scabs in the boot floor that need a quick going over, and as the seats need a bit of a re-dye I thought I’d whip the rear bench out and check the floor under there too. There’s quite a few spots that I need to tickle up with the grinder before it all goes back together so I can see myself running as a two-seater for a while. Seat-wise though, that was an easy win today. A bottle of Kaps prep and leather dye have been sat in the garage for a while now waiting to be used, and as the sun was shining it seemed a good day to do it…. Before; After prep; And after 3 coats of black dye; Tomorrow or Sunday that will get a good slathering of conditioner to try and feed it before putting it to the side and attacking the fronts…
