1984 Austin Metro City X - £1750- Emsworth, Hampshire
A fine example of a Mk1 Metro offered for sale fully serviced and with a fresh MOT
46000 miles
Structurally and mechanically extensively restored with good bodywork and an excellent interior
Large history file including sales brochures, receipts and full details of all repairs, restoration works and modifications carried out over the last 10 years.
I have owned this car for almost 10 years and will miss it greatly, however I feel it is time for it to move on.
The little car rides and drives very well on new Ultralight 12x5 alloy wheels and Falken tyres and freshly re-gassed and individualised hydragas units from hydragasandhydrolasticservice.com. The hydragas service transformed the car in terms of handling, ride and road noise.
The engine benefited from a full rebuild to a fast road specification at approximately 40000 miles with an MG Metro camshaft, refurbished unleaded MG Metro 12G940 cylinder and lightened flywheel. The gearbox was replaced with a rebuilt unit because 2nd gear syncro was worn. The engine breathes through an HIF38 carb with AAA needle and full Maniflow exhaust system. An MG Metro electronic distributor has also been fitted. This makes for an excellent driving experience without compromising low speed drivability in traffic, or drastically reducing economy. I have found it perfectly useable as a daily driver.
The car has been subject to extensive restoration works with the front valance replaced, front wing replaced, sills, inner wings, rear valance and floors all repaired. In all cases rust has been fully cut away and new metal let in before being treated with zinc primer and underseal.
The braking system has been fully rebuilt with new seals and pistons in the front calipers, new cylinders, shoes and drums in the rear and braided hoses fitted all round.
The interior is in a condition fitting for a low mileage and cared for car. The only areas showing their age are some of the plastic trim items which have suffered from UV damage.
The bodywork is starting to show its age with some dents, chips and areas of paint that isn’t matching exactly. There is also some rust damage to the passenger door frame at the bottom where water has collected due to the drains having been blocked. The top of the windscreen also has some bubbling but none of this has got worse in the last decade and has been treated regularly with Krust.
A large collection of spares will also be included.
In summary it is an honest car that is perfectly useable and very fun to drive as is while offering scope for improvement to the bodywork.
I am in Emsworth, Hampshire and am happy for viewings to be made most evenings and weekends. I would be happy to drive the car anywhere in the UK to deliver it to a new owner if fuel and the return trip was covered.
Much of the work has been documented here forum.retro-rides.org/thread/116588/1984-austin-metro-city
