It quit raining this afternoon, so I decided to do a bit of car work. Day off work. Pulled the carb off and fitted longer studs. Fitted the phenolic spacer and gaskets. Pulled the driver's side manifold off and clearanced it gently with a large hammer. (Actually used a larger hammer than in that photo). I then heat shield wrapped it. Makes a significant difference to the amount of heat right there, it's surprising. Need to get some downpipe bolts and springs, and a couple gaskets. The kick-down cable arrived today but that's a moot point until I can get the correct brackets. Another box should arrive tomorrow. Phil

Today, I made a bendy tube. Turns to avoid the torsion bar, then lines up with the notch in the subframe. Looks pretty tidy. Need to work out where the rest of it needs to go. Stuck a couple straight lengths of pipe into the new downpipe. Has a deep rumble already just with the length of pipe. Phil

A bit more progress today. Built the downpipe to muffler section on the passenger side. Also built the driver's side downpipe. Tried plumbing a couple lengths of pipe out to the back, engine bay is remarkably quiet... Now all the knocks, clicks and rattles from the engine can be heard. Phil

Ordered a couple twin chamber mufflers, we'll see how they work. If they're still too rowdy I can add a couple glasspacks and a couple resonators.

Cut-n-weld again this morning. Started making the mirror of the passenger side pipe. Rain and FedEx stop play. Waiting on mufflers so I can align the pipes with where the mufflers need to go. They fit pretty well though. Need to clean that one up a bit. Phil

Mufflers arrived. They're the mild steel version of Flowmaster twin chamber mufflers by Speedway. Excuse holding the thing up with my foot, but that's hooked up with a rubber bungy. Needs another up front. Ran out of time to do the other side so just stuffed the muffler on it resting on the floor. Nice deep note. Pops and bangs before we're from a spark plug wire not fully seated... Funday because it was up on stands, I changed the oil. Cappuccino, anyone? Phil

It's condensation, gasoline, leftover greb from when the oil got water in from sitting in the rain- I don't think it's got an internal leak.

Made a pipe. Welding in the dark isn't fun. But, it fits. Need to get some clamps. Phil

Minus the welds needing to be cleaned up, I think that's good. There's enough room there for the axle and brake lines. Been looking at sleeve type clamps, which seem to be pretty good overall. Might pick up a few.

That going to have to be redone, forgot the damper isn't in place that's going to bump, I think.

Good news. That fits, even with the huge big "load adjusting" spring assist shocks that came with the car. I might change those for regular shocks, we'll see. Phil

Thirty minutes available with no rain. Fully welded up 3 pieces of pipe to finish up the passenger side mid-pipe. That now meets the muffler and needs two hangers making up to hold it up. Phil
