I bought this a few years ago purely because I wanted a 4wd car and this was the cheapest car on ebay under the search "quattro".
It's a 1993 Audi 100e Quattro with the 2.3 10v engine. In other words, the least exciting one of the range. It had one owner for 23 years who lived in France so it's never seen salted roads before, and when they returned to the UK about 5 years ago they traded it in for a new Audi A3. However, when they discovered that the dealer was just going to scrap the car they bought it back and sold it on themselves.
I ran it for about a year before parking it in the garden and using it to hoon around the field here (quattro!), and whilst this model with this engine really doesn't seem to be worth anything, it's just too nice to scrap. There's virtually no rust, only a couple of tiny spots on the sunroof and near the exhaust but the sills and underside look like a new car, which is quite remarkable.
I managed to blow up the radiator so it's been sitting in the garden for many months. First job was to move it onto hard ground so I can jack it up.
My assistant inspected the vehicle for move-worthiness while I put the battery back in and pumped up the tyres.
Interior is good but headliner is saggy, so that will need sorting.
This is the worst of the rust on the front wings, which I think is a common weak spot on these. Pleased with that, but I will treat this spot asap before it can get worse.
Under the bonnet is... uninspiring. You can see how much space there is for another bank of cylinders...
Despite sitting for so long it started on the button so I moved it into the stable yard. Now it can be jacked up.
And that's it for now. My plans for this are: fit new radiator, change engine oil seals and timing belt, replace the lifters as it's sounding very tappety, new bushes and dampers all round (basically replace every rubber piece underneath), new brakes, repaint rear bumper and then sort out the interior.
I already have many of the parts so should be back with an update shortly
