Here is my Chevy wrecker truck.
1978 C30, dually rear wheel, complete with period spec lift, winches etc. Kitted out exactly as it should be from the time.
It was in use in Alabama, where it served its duty as a proper workhorse, and was used for repos, recovery's, and as a service truck for a mechanic's small repair garage 'Jimmy Jumbo Jackson' on Rocky Ridge Road.
After being imported into the UK the truck was laid up for years until it was restored back to its former glory around 10 years ago.
The restoration included a brand new crate engine, 5.7 litre US Army spec. Overhaul of the lifting and recovery gear. Bodywork and paint, with detailing and sign writing to keep the truck as close to original as possible.
The underside is nicely oiled for future protection, the interior is fantastic with dozens of switches, fully functioning, a huge re-upholstered bench seat (prob fit 4 people across it with ease!), stainless steel custom stacks really set the truck off, and let the lovely V8 rumble out.
The truck starts up straight away, every time, any time, cant emphasise enough how reliable it is. It drives faultlessly, the brakes are spot on, and works just as a truck should.
The indicators are a bit temperamental- sometimes they work fine, other times they want the day off! Just typical 'classic car' wiring, and easily sorted out. Also I am pretty sure that the small front winch hasn't been wired in, and is just for show at present. There is a crack in the rear screen, but I wouldn't bother changing- just adds to the character of this tough old workhorse.
I will let the photos do the talking now....
Not long had this and was looking to keep her for myself. Its great as a show truck, and for weekend driving, but to be fair its also a brilliant promotional tool for any recovery firm - get it sign written in company name and use it as it were intended. At the end of the day, the spec lift is fully functioning condition, and this beast will pull anything behind it with ease!
A very rare find, you don't come across these trucks over here every day. Only reason that I am very regrettably thinking of selling her is purely down to the reasons that I have way too many cars, and more importantly, and to the point - I cant fit it through the doors of any of my units for storage purposes!
Transport available if needed at buyers cost.
Located in Ware, Herts.
Thanks, Matt
