Hello to all, I’m George.. I make things pretty. Some may know me through Dez and spraying his cars. Others through the Japanese scene. Or Grindr. Anycase, here’s my truck.. California import ‘55 (57 front) 283 v8 manual This was a fresh import, came next door to Dez’s unit for one of his power steering conversion units to be fitted and never left. Some cash and finance *peasant* later and it was purchased, my first (and only) American car to date. This was 4 years ago now. Things have been slow, work gets in the way a lot. After working on customers cars all the time, I’m keen to get home and drink beer. I’ve gained some progress with the truck as of late, and once worked out all the photos etc will do a small build thread if any interest.

Welcome and all that.
I like trucks, so will be happy to keep an eye on this evolving as and when you are not drinking beer.

So purchase complete, and the truck mine... it was time for a drive. Dez done a burnout out of his workshop (good job the tyres weren’t new) whilst hanging on for dear life on the upside down b&q bucket seat. I drove up the field, throwing stones at the mere mortals as I burbled on by. Parked at the top of the yard with the truck idling enjoying my latest purchase, then... steam galore.Radiator decided to empty its guts. So took it back down, parked it inside and sulked for a year. Next to DrDicks mustang in with me for a full repaint.

Update time... Even though I’m going back a while now and struggling for pictures, as I change my phone more than my knickers. Mainly because I’m dopey and drop them 😶 Decided to leave the exterior of the truck as it is, for many reasons. It really suits the car, and it’s all ‘natural’ wear and tear. Also because it’s so much work and I really struggle for spare time and being in the right headspace at the time. But I wanted to do something to it, to improve it and put my touch on it so to speak. So set on the interior of the truck, there was loads of redundant screw holes, bolts, speaker holes etc. First of stripping the interior of any insulation, padding, old paint, etc knocking everything back to bare metal. Found out that someone had cut the sun visor holes with either a chainsaw or an uzi. So they got repaired. The dash was destroyed, and had this masterpiece created and installed in deepest, darkest California. Wasn’t actually welded in, unless filler counts? The dash was absolutely mangled, but luckily managed to bribe Dez with favours in kind, so he came and repaired it for me. Finished results from sanding, grinding session looked a little like this. Whilst the top half was all stripped and repaired I put some epoxy on it to protect from any damp etc, although I’m fortunate enough to have a heated workshop. Epoxy applied, mixed up in a purple.. this was to try out an idea before I took it too far. Luckily because it’s only an epoxy primer, it’s not too late to go back and change my idea. Note the nice mooneye wheel found on FleaBay, and the inside was starting to look a-bit more complete. Even though it was bare and I still didn’t have a seat 😬

So trying to play abit of catch up.. I took a bit of a break a few years ago to revamp my workshop. I ended up completely stripping it back, removal of 2 poster ramp, taking over another unit next door.. (thankfully.. as the bloke was a nightmare and constantly being a nuisance) Knocking them both into one, full rewire, painted, floor painted, and a mahoosive spray booth built from scratch. Workshop is now 3000 sqft.. pic attached of @drdicks mustang to show some idea of size of the booth and workshop. Which is fortunate... because after the misfortune that happened to Dez I moved him in for 6 months... meant my nice shiny paint was no more and I started missing out letters when I spoke. Fast forward abit and I’m nearly caught up... After the top of the cab had been stripped, repaired and primed it was time to focus on the lower half. First to start with this guy, the truck no longer had foot start. So time to fill the hole, with metal, not anything laying on the floor and some gob. Yeehaw! Much better... Lots of small holes, screw holes etc and seized bolts all removed, welded. I won’t upload pics because I’m sure everyone’s seen similar 1000’s of times over. This little guy needed sorting though, even though the plan was to apply some form of truck liner and insulation to the cab floor, I didn’t want to use it as an excuse to cover nasties. Made a pretty colour if nothing else. And that was that, continued knocking back with wire wheels, 80grit on das, and sanding by hand to everywhere I couldn’t reach. Cab floor was nearly done, and work got real busy again 😬 So parked her back in the corner until the next quiet period hit.

(thankfully.. as the bloke was a nightmare and constantly being a nuisance) I’m just amazed this sentence isn’t referring to me 😂 And it was actually only 3 months we cohabited although I agree it seems like way longer. At least all those language lessons means you can understand what your other half is saying...

At least all those language lessons means you can understand what your other half is saying... Felt like a lifetime 😂 To be fair I underestimate just how quick it all got cleaned and built. If I gave up smoking again it’d all been cleaned within a day. Yeah thankyou for that?..

After all welding work was complete and epoxy primer... it was time for some high build primer. So a mask up, and away we go. Nice few coats of Mipas 4+1 2k Akrifiller primer for the job, it’s my go to for every job. Nice and easy to sand, and no shrink back. Pictures attached are after I’d sanded the primer, 320 > 500 grit ready for solvent base coat. So after all the preparation was complete, the primer sanded and the truck wiped down it was time for some colour. I’d been on the fence on purple for a long long time. Even trying out the epoxy I couldn’t decide. Black was a no for me, but I also didn’t want to just do it in a direct gloss and regret it not being ‘enough’ to please me. So decision made, full retard activated and this was the result. So purple metalflake happened. I tried out a new lacquer kit on my personal car before using it on any paying customers work. Turns out it’s pretty curse word, so will have to flow coat it in my go to clear in a week or so. But overall comparing it to how it was, I’m happy with it. I’ll always be my biggest critic, and never satisfied, but it’s received a lot of positive feedback to date.

That looks amazing, I love metal flake paint. One day I will have a car (or even part of a car) painted in full on fairground dodgem spec flake paint.
