Hello I’ve been after a lockdown project for a while and have walked passed this forlorn Mazda for over 18 Months with the Dog, and if my memory is correct it has not moved much at all as the MOT history will tell. I follow several people on this forum and one often tells @mercdan68 how he will knock on doors or leave notes on cars, driven by this i put a note through the letter box about 4 weeks ago and after a few text conversations and a viewing today became the owner of this.... A 1 owner from new with 66K on the clock, I collect it tomorrow and will hopefully try to demould and make it more water tight as it is slightly damp in places...... More updates and pictures to follow hopefully at the weekend if time permits....

Yes mate Looks quality. I always loved the standard steel wheels on these. You never see anyone using them either which is a shame. The sun damage is phenomenal, you could always rock it as a sort of patina as well and I think it could pull it off.

That looks like good fun, like the 'patina' and the steel wheels. My patina is more of the patchwork paint kind and added scratches.

I'll never call mine pink again! Then again, it would almost be a shame to polish this one...
Doesn't even look rusty in those photos, nice find.

Looks like you hvae got yourself a nice project there. It will be transformed by just a scrub and paint correction. Get a big dehumidifier in there aswell and it will dry out in no time.

What a great find and looks like it has found the right home to look after it 👍 Can't be many about with that mileage and so few owners! Bookmarked 😎

I didn't even realise it was red I though it had been painted pink! A machine polish would vastly improve it.
It looks a relatively rust free UK car which is pretty rare, It only takes half an hour or so to get the carpet out (remove seats and centre console then cut it lengthways under the centre console and take it out in 2 pieces. I would be inclined to do this wash the carpet and treat any surface rust on the floors etc before it goes back in.
Most of the water in ours was coming in around the speakers then running down the back of the door trim and dripping on the carpets, the speakers should have water shields but they usually seem to get lost when speakers are replaced.

That has the basics of a little gem of a car. I'd go full on TLC to clean it up and keep it bog standard.

I'd just through the boot carpet away. That's nasty. No food and drink updates? Today did start post awesomeness Dinner, with it being a Friday that means a good old drink to celebrate another week not losing it at work and a good old feed namely vegan chicken Kiev, rice and baked vegetables washed down with a South African Chardonnay which went down far to easily, and of course precluded by a couple of tins of Heineken out of the freezer. I hate cleaning cars, properly hate it, it is up their with talking to my ex wife..... yup it’s that bad. This morning the Dig woke me barking at something far too early at 6.30 and the head was not the best that early so a gallon of coffee and porridge gave me sustenance for my target for today: Remove the Seats Remove the Carpet Remove Boot Carpet Break out the Machine Polisher Did I say I hate cleaning cars? Every screw and bolt on the near side fought me, and I was kneeling in rancid swamp juice getting soaking wet in howling winds and cold weather. The only thing I had to think laterally about was removing the carpet as I did not want to remove the dash, so had to carefully with the skill of a surgeon make one cut...... if I had to go to confession I’d be going to hell for the hour or so I spent tilting about but finally I won!!! That along with the boot carpet was jet washed and left to fly around the drive curse word me off even more!! Enthused by my progress I broke out the Machine Polisher and G3....... unfortunately that all got used on the Porsche and Mini before they went into hibernation so I looked at what was left and tried samples of each, 10 plus year old T-Cut, rubbing compound, some AutoGlym snake oil and something from Halfords. The best result was the T-Cut as you can see in the picture dump below, I have ordered some G3 and when the weather gets warm enough to do a decent job I will plan another thick head to numb the pain while thinking of Carol Vorderman.... The photo of the passenger footwell is dried rusty water from the corroded bolts on the ecu cover plate, they fought me and one so will return with my impact wrench, car is currently wearing a cover with a dehumidifier inside to help dry it out, a further poke around and still no usual MX5 rust spots. Now as it’s Saturday and I want to watch the original Jackal tonight I will mainly be eating fish and chips from Smarts in Thame washed down with as much San Miguel as I can stomach before finding the Dog attractive.... Thanks for looking....

Looking good👍 Surprisingly solid for an early UK car, what are the sills and rear arches like? Solid..... the previous owner never used it in winter so has been saved from some of the ravages this can cause, front and rear sill ends are good and no bubbling in the usual places. The only rust scab I have found so far is the top of the NS A pillar which is the size of a thumbnail. Once I have the inside watertight it will be put on axle stands to get the rims refurbed, new tyres and a under arch refresh to keep corrosion at bay. The soft top is complete toast and the reason for the water ingress so that is first on the shopping list, currently wading through the many variations on offer. Realistically this will also live in storage for 6 months of its life and will never be subjected to long runs so I just need something basic to protect it during summer months. Thoughts anyone, or previous experience from companies?
