I'm thinking of selling my 1972 Ford Consul GT. I'm looking for £8000
The good:
Brakes rebuilt
Current MOT to October
Regularly serviced
New fuel pipes, pump, filter and carb
New silicon heater hoses
New carpets (cabin and boot floor)
Pulls hard. Previous owner told me the engine had been rebuilt with oversized Pistons. No proof of this, but I had to fit bigger idle jets when I changed the carb
Speedo professionally rebuilt
New tyres
New Exhaust
New Battery
History file with MOT/tax disks back to the 90s
Low number of owner's think I'm only the 4th or 5th owner
Rear light lenses refurbed
New rear bumper and overriders
The bad:
Paint is very poor, ideally needs bare metalling to sort this properly
There is some minor rust to deal with; 2 advisories on last MOT. Hole in corner of rear valence
Passenger seat is a mess (interior was sourced from LHD car)
Dashboard is tatty. Nasty wood attached to it that I couldn't remove. I took screws out from behind and attacked it with hammer and chisel and it refused to budge.
Recently developed electrical fault whereby radio, temp gauge, rev counter and indicators are intermittent
£8000 might seem a lot with all these issues but try finding another. Restored GXLs regularly go for £15K+, and tired examples like this are £5K, so given its rarity and fact its on the road £8K seems fair. I won't be accepting offers of £5K. I may as well just keep it and continue gradually tackling the issues rather than sell it cheap
Here's a couple of pics, (more available on the build thread here: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/217430/consul-gt)
