Registered in December 1888, about 5 months after production ended. There were only just over 4000 924S's made. You probably know that the S has the Porsche designed and built 2500cc engine, as opposed to the Audi derived 2.0 litre in the earlier 924 models. In the last year of production (which this one is) tweeks to the 2.5 litre unit gave it 160bhp in standard form - not bad for the day and plenty in a car that only weighs 1300kg.
Anyway - enough history lessons!
A mate of mine posted this picture on his facebook this week.....
I couldn't resist popping round for a look and an hour later a deal was done and I now own it!
Seems really solid and runs and drives nicely. It's getting a new water pump, belts and a service early next week as a precautionary measure as it's only done a few hundred miles in the last 6-7 years.
Seats let it down a bit - the vinyls bolsters are great but the stitching of the centre fabric panels has come apart in places.
Porsche did some weird and wonderful fabrics in their cars in the 70's & 80's and as mine need re-upholstering I'm going to try and find some period material to use.
On that subject - does anyone know a vehicle upholsterer in the Surrey area?
Otherwise the plan is just to give it a good clean and polish and drive the hell out of it as soon as restrictions end!
