Great job working through these jobs, engine and electrical. Much to be said for these parts that can be opened-up and cleaned/fixed.
The local content in CKD vehicles is fascinating, too.
Best, John

Well done on getting it running, quite impressed with that! Sounds like it's a pretty decent car (for a Marina) under the grime and primer I've been sourcing NOS switches for mine as the new ones are a bit pants, so you've definitely done the right thing in stripping down and rescuing yours. The screenwash pump might well be a gummed up impeller although doubtless the motor is corroded as well.

I do genuinely think there is a gem of a car hiding under that neglected and misguided exterior. It needs work, but what Marina thats been sitting around for 25 years doesnt? I've been trying to free the pump up with CRC/WD40 and jamming 12v into it in both directions, but getting nothing, so suspect its rusted solid. Replacements are available so probably the best bet. The switches are quite nice in their simplicity. The TR7/TVR switches i refurbished on the TVR were fragile and fiddly, but the Marina ones are chunky and solid. The only downside is putting all the headlight amperage through the headlight switch, but I have a relay kit to unload that switch later.

Dual filament in the indicators? Bodge job mate. They're the brake/tail bulbs. Good to see an Aussie Marina getting some TLC and noting the differences between UK and Aus ones. You being in NZ are lucky/unlucky you got both varieties to play with! Strangely, I missed it on the wiring diagram, but as confirmed by another NZDM Marina, this is factory fitment. The rear indicators double as reverse lights! Unfortunately I'm finding that the local content is a pain to get parts for. I'm going to want to go through the brakes, but since its all AUS sourced stuff its much harder to get than the UK gear. Different! I gather the running gear may be a Ford/Leyland mix; I know UK front calipers are the same as on Mk1 Cortinas (thanks to EBC brakepads listings) so there are bound to be equivalents out there somewhere. If you are on the Book of Farces (if they haven't had another spat with another Govt anyway), have a look at this bunch, there are quite a few in Aus, UK and NZ. www.facebook.com/groups/379723898738924

I'm on that group already. Very helpful but the Aussies havent had to try and cross over the UK/Aus stuff, so going to have to do some trial and error. I guess since it was local content in AUS they have suppliers, whilst here in NZ there is little to no supply. There is a suspicion that the "Girlock" brakes are copies of the UK Girling brakes in order to satisfy the local content requirements. Hopefully this means the UK Girling seal kits should work in them. I'm going to assess their condition first before deciding to rebuild them. I do have new brake hoses on the way though (to UK spec) so will replace them. The rear diff and rear brakes are the biggest unknown. Its a local content Borg Warner diff, and so far I know the rear cylinders are much bigger than the Uk ones so no idea what they are from yet.

Just for my own records, Clutch master is poked, but is a spitfire part. Slave needs a new seal but otherwise looks OK, is a Girlock item. Aussies were smart and used a circlip to retain the slave, so once the circlip is removed the whole lot comes out toward the front of the car. Ive been slowly sanding the primer off the paint. The paint is average under the primer (its been sanded back before primer) but should clean up OK until I can afford to paint the car. Found a big slab of bog in the front RH guard though. Rusty under it so need to pull it all off and see why it was there.
