A mate bought a flat recently with a detached garage n a block nearby. We cut the lock off it yesterday and discovered this. We pulled it out with my van. It hasn't been taxed for fifteen years. I've agreed to buy it off him for £250. No keys or paperwork obvs. As is the norm, I have no idea where I'm going to keep it or what I'm even going to do with it. It seems quite solid for one of these. Any ideas peeps?

I'm having a drive over this morning (it's about fourteen miles away) and I'm going to give it a brush off and see what I've let myself in for. Whatever happens I should get my money back I would think.

Mate, these things rust in damp free environments, so my bet will be its a crumbler (just ask sweetpea) Its a mk1B by the look of it. T bar roof is OK but known to have leak issues. Sunroof most common, tin top is the rarest. A lot of white cars had very 80s blue interiors, that black one is actually pretty desirable. If those seats and doorcards clean up and its a breaker, they will fetch a few bob. But aye, the rust is going to be the make or break with it. Arches are always the worst, but the fact that window has been down is pretty damning for its chances of the floors surviving.

Get a reciept for it & you should have very little come back from the previous owner if you decide to put it on the road.
Be intersting to how it cleans up

It seems to be the fashion at the moment to put an ad up showing the car in that state saying “Barn find” and ask for a ludicrous amount!
Winner 😎

Thanks for the replies. My mate broke the window for access ffs. I've got a flier from work and I'm on my way over now. If it is rotten it should yield some pretty useful parts to keep others on the road.

My hobby car is an '89 mx5. I know what the '80's Japanese cars are like for rust. :-)

Looks like it might be an import (could just be ireland) as reg date is 8 July 1991

That was in a garage? Not a hedge?

The roof on the garage had rotted and was mainly replaced by ivy. I've been for a look and I think it's terminal. I have more photosbut I don't know how to share them from my phone.

Even mine didn't look that bad when I got it! No, actually it did. It just didn't have as much compost on the top. It all depends what you call 'terminal'. You'd expect the rear arches and back of the sills to me missing. Some damage to the sills would be normal. Bottom of the front wings will be missing (behind the skirt). What makes it not worth the bother is if the structure where the lower front suspension bolts on is badly damaged or the floor pans where they meet the sills. I can probably give you a list of places to look if you want. It can all be fixed as martin42006 is proving. Can you be bothered though??? James

Looks like it might be an import (could just be ireland) as reg date is 8 July 1991 It doesn't look like an 87/88 model, colour coded mirrors would make it more likely 88/89. If it's terminal you'll easily get more than £250 by breaking it, if you have the time and space you can probably get treble that. Is that a workshop manual lying on the passengers seat? Looks like someone has been working on it, the two plastic bits on the seat are the vents from the inside of the B pillars and half the exhaust lying on the engine cover. Bonnet badge is missing and possibly the TOYOTA decal off the front bumper If you want to know more about it PM me the VIN number ( it's on a plate in the front compartment, plate is on the inside of the headlight bulkhead) and I can tell you the month/year it was built.

TBH that looks saveable,no worse than the one I'm currently restoring, not that i have the time to restore another one but i would be interested if you are nearby. Where abouts are you based and does he have a price in mind?

Most of that looks repairable, just a matter of time and effort.

I don't have the time unfortunately. The car is in Bedlington Northumberland NE22. £250 would buy it.

Put it for sale on the FB groups as well as the sale section here.
I think many would be interested at £250
I'll forward this onto a friend.
