Cool car, Dez. I like Lada's. Years ago, I swapped a 1800 Twin Cam Fiat engine into one ( an earlier model ). It bolted to the Lada gearbox with very few modifications... Gearing was not that great for it though. It did good burnouts, etc, but the owner blew it up in a couple of weeks by over revving it...

Great to see this arrive at the campsite - I gave it a cheery wave but was talking to the circuit owner

Tbh I got rather carried away and it ended up with loads of other stuff done like r&p steering, escorts hubs and rear axle, turreted rear on coilovers, etc. tbh I preferred it before and regretted it a bit. There days I wouldn’t go anywhere near the Fiat motor, they’re damn expensive now and the only real specialist over here is a proper knob. If I did another I’d probably use a blacktop zetec.

If the only real specialist is who I think it is, he died a few years ago.
From talking to other tuners, your opinion wasn't exactly yours alone.
I happen to have a Lancia 16V N/A engine sat in the shed if anyone still wants to try . .

The way he was with people was utterly bizarre given his chosen line of work was basically convincing other people to give him money for his skill. I don’t deny he was skilled with those particular engines, but his personality and attitude made him insufferable to all but the most forgiving. I guess it doesn’t matter any more though.

Great to see a Lada given some love! My dad has a 83 2106. We got the parts from Ladapower in Belgium but ordered on the same site as you do. As of engine swaps, almost every (bigger) Fiat engine from the 80's, 90's and 2000's fits in. Even the 1.9 And 2.4 JTD bolt right up to your bellhousing. Only the starter got a bit bigger. This is a Lada bellhousing with a 2.4 TD 5 pot diesel plate on it. I also spotted a C32 Laurel on one of the pictures!

Annoyingly the clutch one was a fraction to short so I had to use some fuel hose. Just a pointer - fuel hose will almost certainly be nitrile rubber, which will 'sweat' brake fluid. Ask me how I know! EPDM hose will be suitable though.

Sometimes, others may not understand why you like a car so much. Sometimes, you may not even understand why you like a car so much. But none of that matters; all that matters is that you like the car, and having it makes you happy.

Tbh I really rate the stock 1500 though. Once it’s allowed to breathe a bit more. I’ve already it well off the clock with a GPS indicated 100 mph on a ‘private test track’. When it comes down or to they’re very light so they don’t need tons of power to be fun. C32 is long gone.

Ask me how I know! EPDM hose will be suitable though. I’ll keep an eye on that, thanks. It’s not an issue I’ve encountered and I’ve seen a few cars using fuel hose in this application. Tbh I plan to grab some more hose on my next ladapower order and swap it so it matches, so it shouldn’t be on there that long.

Yeah I had weeping with the fuel hose I'd used on the X1/9 and had to pull it all out again and replace it with EPDM. Not a small job on an X1/9!

So whats been happening? Well, I went to the gathering. I’d driven the car 5 miles before setting off, basically to the MOT and back and to get some fuel. Remember it’s been off the road for at least 20 years, so then was very much aGoing for broke journey. I went cross country for about 10 miles to test it out, then it was straight onto the m1. I did 2 junctions down to Woodall services to meet stealthstylz and mk14dr without issue. From there we were cruising at 70-75 and the gauge was showing it was a bit warm, about 3/4 on the gauge. We pulled over at trowell for other reasons, I was a bit worried about it as I’d not heard the fan come on, then with a cacophonous racket and a lot of dust and detritus expelled it kicked into action 😂 Tbh I think the gauge just reads higher than the truth as it was showing no signs of overheating. The rest of the journey was fine and tbh on the journey home it wasn’t reading quite as high, so maybe some heat cycles has sorted it out, or cleaned out the cooling system. I like these two as they show it driving, which shows the stance is bang on- All pictures stolen off the interwebz except the first one. So yeah, mission successful. A pretty much faultless journey there and back, and I wasn’t being easy on it.

Great success! It really does have a cracking stance, mega cool bit of kit.
