I know what you mean about soft looking......Looks like it’s got a layer of filler over everything.... whether it needs it or not, which seems be a bit of a US body shop thing? Nick When we did the Healey we took many pounds of Bondo out of the panels. I know 'cos I collected it and weighed it. US bodyshops seem to take a dent and hammer it deeper so they can get a really good layer of filler in.

So, if you are wondering why I've taken the plunge into the #financialmistake, I've had this graphic hanging up in the house for about 14 years. Goal was always to do the triple. Done multiple minis, had a mk1 MGBGT. Plus other stuff like a spitfire, RRC, Saab 99 Turbo, 200BRM, Ford Falcon Sprint. Yes, they are expensive and not that well built. Jag definitely built them to a price. But its a car that is greater than the sum of its parts. There's the styling, the aircraft themed construction, the knowledge from C and D type racing and the sound of the XK engine. And basically, I really liked my mk1 MGBGT but wanted a bigger back seat and more power. This car is from Texas, so dry state. It was resprayed in the 80's but not a filler car. All the panel spot welds are still visible (eg rear wheel arches) and has never been welded. The boot floor usually rots but this one is good. Its also (apparently) a "Jamiroiquai car".......hence its nickname "Space Cowboy (and also the Houston/Texas space race connection).

I thought it was also called the Ganster of Love.
Some reprobate sent me a video for this. I'll have to work on getting it up onto some Tube of sorts.

It wasn’t rotten (except the interior and anything rubber), or particularly dented but it was covered in filler. Everywhere. 2 - 5mm depth. It looked just a bit off - lines softened and blurred. The actual panels underneath were fine, but they took some finding. No idea why they did it - must have taken ages . Trust the OP will be spared this trial! Nick

I'm not sure what I'm looking at there but just to say that overall I really do like these (not the v12 ones however - certainly not from a styling point any way).
What are your plans for it? Where did you get it from?

Hate to tell you this but most of Texas isn't a dry state, only the south-west.
Looks interesting though, hopefully it's a good start but yes. Everything's bigger in Texas, including the volume of body filler added to cars. Again no idea why.
Watching with interest!

Starting to get rather fed up with the filler comments .....so much so think I'll give RR a break for a bit.

Starting to get rather fed up with the filler comments .....so much so think I'll give RR a break for a bit. I thought earlier on there were a few negative comments on this thread but wasn't sure if I'd imagined it. Please carry on posting about it as I'd like to see it's story / progress whether it's a light resto / full resto / or modifications involved too.

Starting to get rather fed up with the filler comments .....so much so think I'll give RR a break for a bit. Understandably so, although I don't think anyone means any harm. Best thing to do is just prove them wrong! I'm sure you investigated the car before purchase as much as you could and you wouldn't have bought a basket case I presume. Pics are a great help, but also very good at not showing the details at times. Please continue the story! And not to add to your feelings in a bad way, but a little more explanation to accompany the pics may also prevent you from getting undesired feedback and generate more understanding with the ones interested. I personally love the e-type and can't wait to follow your journey with it, as I have your falcon etc...

I love E-Type's, and I've loved all your threads so far, but to throw your toys out after 3 or 4 comments saying "might have some filler in it" And walk away from RR seems a little bit of an overreaction.
Its a forum, people have an opinion and the right to express it...I didn't see anything overly negative, plus one or two arty shots of half the car or a wing here and there in a shaded trailer is always going to make people wonder and they can only comment on what they can see.
Prove people wrong, show some more of the car and some more progress and people will go with it and love it. We're all enthusiasts, that's why we're here and that's why we post!
I hope you stay, as I say your threads have been really good with some awesome cars.

I always thought I was alone in liking the +2 versions - but then I like the clown shoe BMW coupe too
Great looking car (the bits shown so far at least) interested in what your plans are for it

Got to love anything with an XK engine in it :-) Are you going to keep the strongbergs or look to change to SU's or something else?
I don't know what their E-Type prices are like but David Manners seem to be cheapest for stuff for my MK2 and they are doing free postage on anything at the moment.
Their website isn't great but they are slowly improving it.
I use SNG Barratts website to get the part number (They both use the original Jaguary numbers) and then type that into David Manners to find what I want.
Martin Robey seem to make most of the panels for the MK2 and I assume the same for the E-Type (not casting any body filler aspersions just thought I would mention it if anything is fractured or damaged.
The Jag spares day at Stoneleigh is always great for bits and to see a few finished cars in the carpark for insperation and even to look at how good/bad everyone elses panel gaps are as a comparison.
Don't be put off by what anyone on here says, the work you were doing on the Marcos was first rate and you will make a fanatastic job of this.

Starting to get rather fed up with the filler comments .....so much so think I'll give RR a break for a bit. Have to agree, totally unnecessary. My dad always used to say to me “ if you haven’t got anything good to say, keep your mouth shut “ Know this will be done to such a good standard as all your others I’ve seen on here. Don’t let the haters get you down and prove them wrong. Crack on.
