Not sure how helpful it is but only idea I have, if you have another phone that will fit in, is to carefully cut the sim card out, leaving the sprues in tact, register it and get it working in the other phone, and then tape it back into the credit card mount. That's if electrical tape wrapped around it doesn't make the card too thick to slot back in. I've been trying to think what happened to the original PAYG SIM card I know the original phone screen was losing pixels at an alarming rate. As a result I was struggling to top it up (using the old "buy a voucher at a supermarket" method) The SIM card I think had warped in the phone and when removed it tore the SIM insert out of the card I think I successfully topped up the SIM in an old Nokia 1610 that was unlocked to any network but when I tried to tape the sim back into the card and use it in the phone it couldn't recognise it as a SIM any more - I probably just binned it at that point Either way I think a non working but cosmetically in tact car phone is retro-tech-tastic enough for the new owner. If it's fitted it needs to work Except "traffic master" that battery draining dysfunctional lump of curse word got stripped out a long time ago cost me a new battery once I'd worked out what was draining it (nearly two) and they aren't cheap!!!!

Oh and the whole phone situation is just my OCD........ That and I have a serious character trait that if I'm told something cannot be done then it's inevitable that I will try to make it work....... But you all know that right

Meantime the quest to shut up the "lady of the bongs" continues - she really is bloody nag My "elctrickery" mate Will has suggested that the Tyre pressure warning system can be coded out - he said it was a bit of a hack but "bongs" is "bongs" From the 7 series register (good little forum for all the versions of the 7 series cars) a very knowledgeable member suggested that to find out which door is giving issues "The door that, when opened, doesn't put the interior lights ON is the one that thinks it is open!" I had to think laterally on this one - get in the car and start it up then the interior lights go off Open the doors one by one from inside and bingo we have a winner - rear passenger door drivers side doesn't bring the interior lights on - it's as if the door wasn't opened at all (I'm not going to think about that right now - seeing as my issue is a door that the car thinks is already open!!!!) So next question is now that I know which door is the "problem child" how do I fix it!!!!! Google time

Oh and going back to the tire pressure monitoring "Bong" it of back history Modern BMW's use the ABS sensors to measure the variation in rotation on the wheels so it knows if one tyre has a puncture because there's more drag and slower rotation. Reset is just a case of holding the button for a certain amount of time and then going for a short drive so it can check itself. However the E38 is "Old tech" - there are these sender units in the wheels BMW in their wisdom made them with batteries that are sealed for life (bit like their automatic transmissions ) Now when I bought the car they were fine (7 years old) They lasted about 10 years before one or more of the batteries died and the system started the "Lady of the Bongs" off on one every time you got in the car Now I like having things that should work well work really so when I pulled the BBS split rims off the car I pulled out the sensors and didn't fit them to the basket weaves so I could investigate making them work again. I found a post somewhere on the internets where they "unsealed" them and replaced the batteries and resin'd them - No pictures as it was on a random message board but I thought what the heck I'll copy that - chose one and did a bit of excavation of the resin - It didn't go so well Now I only had three - So I tried another one.......... I only have two left now and they are both dead And they aren't fitted to any wheels Oh and I asked BMW what the cost of new sensors was £75 each but they couldn't guarantee that it would fix the system as the the radio recievers ny each wheel had been know to go bad £45 each and the control unit might also need replacement £300 It was an £80 K car - expect £80 K car level service costs Now my mate Will says with something called NCS expert (Whatever the fug that is to normal people) can code it out Not sure if this means anything to anyone but it's what he sent to me Beer trade is not money spent on the car

If its anything like the Opcom I used to use on my Vectra, all the options are preloaded to the ecu and turned on by specification, just a case of going into it and turning them on/off.

Would you take £500 cash tonight? I don't normally respond to offers like that but honestly if you want to give me £500 for a late 90's Motorola 8700 then as I can't seem to get it to work I'll say yes

Chill Winston, I’m only pulling your leg.
By the time you’re finished the car will be worth £5k.

Chill Winston, I’m only pulling your leg. By the time you’re finished the car will be worth £5k. Oh I am chilled and my response was in humour - Mrs BC expected weigh in money for it besides most of the I’ll take it now and give you £500, £750 tonight offers got flushed out months ago none pf them will be following the thread anymore. I don’t think it will ever be worth £5000 even on a white background - it deserves a good home - had it not been for lockdowns it would have been gone by now (well OK when the tyres arrive) but nothing is normal right now I have time to fix a few other things - might as well

Yup, I was right. Vodaphone is an anagram of Globe Telecom Inc., with whom I have had many similar and fruitless conversations. Customer Care Motto, "Wear them down."

Beautiful car, I recently sold my sport for just over 5 grand; always amazed me how much more the sport is worth for essentially the same car. Great thread Here’s mine

Good luck to the new owner then (lucky curse word) You aren't far from the top of the list...... If something happens Its absolutely unacceptable that my offer of my very own son servicing your wife's needs (in the bathroom) hasn't catapulted me to pole position haha (typed with the intended humour its meant to have) loved the thread and interactions regardless of if I 'win' or not Thanks BC, epic thread

Right before the cold snap descends on us I’d better replace the other hoses and replace the water pretending to be coolant - it would be rather annoying to crack a block at this stage.
So off to collect some antifreeze and sill cover clips from BMW “click and collect” due to the “Rona”
Also need 5 L of deionised water to mix with the antifreeze.

740 now has a healthy mix of de-min water and antifreeze I did try to get as much as I could out of the 12.5 Litre system capacity (lowest hose disconnected and used an airline to presurise the system and blow as much out as possible but knew I would never be able to drain it all 6 litres of BMW Antifreeze and 4 litres of de-min water saw it filled up so still 2.5 litres in the system Clips With the new clips all fitted and line up The sill cover was refitted - looks much better - you can still see it is cracked but it's not the gappy mess of overlapping plastics that it was. Quick run down the private road I use when I need to give the car a work out to get it all circulating properly - when the car has cooled I'll top up as required - normally takes a couple of cold starts with the "Lady of the Bongs" nagging about coolant level before it settles down The registration document arrived today which I thought was very quick Vodafone continue to talk to me in retard mode...... I'm failing to get the message across that I cannot add credit to a phone where I have no idea what the number is
