Ive ummmed and arrred about doing a build thread for my LC as its only just retro. But ive done a bit already and its a good truck so figured id share info just incase anyone is interested.
I have a tradition of buying something every winter for bad weather and offroad use. I live in wiltshire which is littered with by-ways and 20mins from Salisbury plains training area. Ive had all sorts fro SJ's, Cherokee', Land Rovers, Surfs etc etc. This year i decided to buy early mid season as prices are lower and i found this LC on ebay auction local to me. It had been on the same estate for over 20 years with good history and just 167,000 on the clock which is just run in for these things.
This time i wanted to venture further around the UK on green lanes so i needed something comfy, reliable and good on the road even with some mudding mods. its great to drive on and offroad with electric everything. I also run a few events on a rally stage in Wales so it will also make a handy recovery vehicle.

After tyre fitting of course they had to be tested so off up a few local lanes to check they don't catch on anything. It was super hot out and about in summer and the Air con had run out.I dropped into my mates at Harveys Autotech in Westbury and they stuck new gas in, shes been ice cold ever since so no leaks in the system which is a great result.

Looking good. Do these have a locking rear diff as standard? The rear diff lock is operated manually and will only work if the centre diff is locked as well, no front diff lock though

The rear diff lock is operated manually and will only work if the centre diff is locked as well, no front diff lock though 3 wheel drive is normally enough! Front is handy when you explode a cv though! On my radar for when my frontera expires - if I can find a non rotten manual d4d. I dislike the yota tax though

Yea ive not had to use my rear locker yet only mycentre one and ive been through some tough stuff already. Id personally look for the older 3.0D like this there are a few problems with the D4D. No Toyota tax to be seen on the 90 series they are around £2000-£3000 with reasonable mileage. Just watch out for the rust

You mention that there was a small hole in the back axle, caused by rust, which let water in; is there a breather also on the axle, in which case with a warm axle being immersed in cold water when off-roading, this would draw said water into the axle when immersed, etc...?
Wading kit would include venting front & rear axles; gearbox & transfer box; possibly timing cover if similar to a Defender. With outlets of the various pipes terminating well above the potential level of any water you are likely to encounter, would alleviate these issues.
Just a thought.
Furthermore have you told your insurance company of the various modifications that you have already carried out? Failing to do so could negate your present cover.
Keep safe and continue to enjoy your vehicle.

astranaut, hopefully you are correct.
It is amazing how many individuals fiddle with their vehicles, and just don't bother updating their insurance companies with this information. I wouldn't trust the majority of insurance companies further than I could throw them; any excuse to avoid paying out.
So better to be safe than sorry and slipngripross will be alright then.

I like your Colorado. They are not a bad truck and it is always fun to leave bitumen behind you and have some fun of-road. Your Colorado is called Prado here in Australia This is our Colorado

I have fitted axle, box breathers on offroaders before but I'm told these have one way valves so shouldnt need them. I'm about to change the oil again on the diffs so i will find out. But it will be a mod i do straight away if i find anymore water in them.
As Astranaut suggests i run motorsport events for a living so hold a trade policy. My trade poolicy does not require me to list mods for each vehicle the business or I own due to the nature of what i do. they essentially assume that every vehicle i own is modified in some way and i pay accordingly for it. Prior to having a trade policy it was frustrating as not only do i mostly own modified stuff but i used to go through around 8 -10 cars a year. Owning an automotive business has its perks when you are a petrolhead

I like watching these blokes on the telly. youtube.com/c/All4AdventureTVYea it is a stunning place with plenty more space than we have. Sort of why i chose an LC as all the outback boys use themm as well as UN and terrorists so must be pretty good right?
