I really can't think of a Yaris as being retro yet. My boss had his daughter's Mk2 Capri at the office yesterday.

I really can't think of a Yaris as being retro yet. My boss had his daughter's Mk2 Capri at the office yesterday. It's a topic I may discuss one time elsewhere . It's funny that we don't consider 20 year old cars to be retros, even 25 years old in some cases. But alot of stuff from that time is. -Nokia 3210/3310s ; Phones are a far cry from what they were now -iPod ; Possibly not, but again, the early(ish) iPods now have a following, and a demand. It's something not made like that for a while now -Dial-up internet : Not retro if you're in Cuba! -Faxes ; who faxes things these days? But, retro isn't what we think it is either. It's an imitation of something from the recent past . I suppose if we look at the recent past, the Yaris probably slots in well.

I daily this at times when it’s not wet at this time of year. Scary to think it’s 32 years old.

Used as a daily for years. Since pandemic changed the commute it sees less use now. Will see what use the summer brings but may be time to move on and let someone else enjoy.

Well this is the only car I own, so I do nip to saino’s in it…. Nightmare. A fellow I used to drink with in the early 90's had a Chev of similar age. There were a number of parking buildings he wouldn't even consider entering.

My Daily since 2017 but on the road continuously since 2011 It replaced a 95 Cavalier, which relaced a 91 Cavalier. Both of which are still around the house. The Carledo is looking good for another mini resto soon. like any 70s daily, it rots away within 10 years. This was retired in 2021 to be replaced with this
The Cavaliers have (finally) moved on to pastures new and SWMBO has a (semi) modern '06 Picasso but I don't even get in that unless she's with me.
The next daily is already in the planning stage as this will be arriving within the next month, I need something a tad bigger to accomodate SWMBOS electric wheelchair.
Plans involve a 2JZ-GE with autobox and BMW LSD, maybe later on a turbo!

I can't claim to be as brave as some on here, but I do my part. That Falcon panel van a few pages back is most excellent. Every time I get bored of old stuff breaking, I go and buy the nicest, newest car I can afford (which invariably ends up being something about 15 years old), then it goes expensively wrong and I bin it off for something 90s. Went from a T reg Mazda 323 (bought for a pint) to a much newer Golf that was awful. Went from an admittedly quite nice XC70 (2.4 diesel manual) to a Rover Metro because the Volvo needed 1500 quids worth of drive shaft. I loved the Metro until all the previous filler fell out and revealed rusty hell. Went from that to a Citroen C2 VTS Code, top of the line, low miles, modern.... wouldn't start in the cold, kept cutting out in the hot weather, parts needed were expensive and on back order for 6 months before I got bored and bought a nice, sensible, 25 year old 318is to back up the 33 year old Nissan, which is still the least unreliable vehicle I've ever owned.

Current round town/short distance journey daily of 5+ years: Although I try to use most of my cars when I'm able to, some don't make it out much when there's salt on the roads.

Not sure if I've posted this before or not. '96 Pulsar (GA15DE and automatic) acquired a little over two years ago by our then 15 year old youngest son. I've been dailying it since June '21. The boy prefers driving his mother's manual Laser.

When its not winter, my 91 Lancia integrale is in daily use - I think 10 yrs of daily all year round use, gives it leeway to take a winter break these days - up to 200,000 in the clock now. Its still the best, most fun, safest feeling winter car I've ever had - failed to make progress up my back road commute home in deep snow once, forcing me to reverse out and go a different route.
So winter use is an Alfa 159 Q4 that only has just under 100,000 on the clock and is only 16 yrs old.
