The most recent plan... Some history from about 2014. Version 1 Citroen 2cv 4x4 in the rear, 2cv suspension, trailing arms at front and rear. Drove OK offroad, steering didnt function properly as the Ackerman effect didnt work. Version 2 Front suspension reverted to the original setup, but springs replaced with Citroen C5 LDS struts and spheres and pump. OK off road but without roll bars or height correctors, you got seasick. Version 3. Rear suspension C5 struts with coil over springs to reduce roll, height adjustable. Front Suspension Short Hydraulic rams fitted inside a 2cv spring, less roll and height adjustable. Rear Coil C5 strut. Rear Setup. Engine - Front Diff/Clutch

Please document this post in pictures. My preference, I apologise. With YouTube it's very much like Facebook. People with no concept to see one project through then start another. Project binky which is highly regarded lost me after part 2 . Matt urch, best thing he built was a transit beaver tail after I'd built a very similar one. Only skid factory, mcm and sick puppy 4x4 keep me goin back to youtube

A preamble as to how this project came about.
The Citroen 2cv is a very capable ! vehicle off road in its standard form. The 2cv “Raids” have taken the cars all over the world.
In about 2003 I purchased a Louis Barbour 2cv 4x4, did numerous Green-lanes and Off Road trips in the UK, France, Belgium and a Raid to the Artic Circle in Feb 2009.
As with most off road you always try the more extreme routes and discover the limitations of a vehicle, so an “idea” of a 2cv with low ratio and adjustable suspension was where the madness started.
Note...A 2cv Sahara or a Mehari 4x4 are available if you have good funding:).
As they say a picture speaks a thousand words, so an annotated image says a bit more.....
Posts to follow.

Being a Land Rover and 2CV owner, I'm looking forward to this build. Likewise; find the concept of 4 X 4 versions of 2CV fascinating. 300tdi daily driver. Keep up the good work and plenty of regular updates re latest progress.

Chassis. The chassis is an early Louis Barbour 4x4 design, based on the 2cv design but with thicker steel, extra bracing and the rear legs configured to allow the rear drive shafts to drop. Have added sub-frames front and rear to support the coil-over struts. Rear Suspension. Using 2cv front arms with the king-pin welded-up to keep the wheels parallel. Used Citroen C5 front struts and spheres from a Hydractive 3 version car. The set up excludes the anti-roll bar as this limits wheel travel. As the height sensors are connected to the anti-roll bar..... no automatic height control or self-levelling. The coil-over set-up using 2cv springs gives the car a static ride height and (softer) springing when the system has no pressure and most importantly prevents excess roll. The ground clearance can adjusted by running the hydraulic LDS pump until the desired height. When the struts are pressurised, the height increased, which then pressurises the spheres to give springing even when raised up. An earlier set up, had no springs, and the car at times had excessive roll!!

Hi, can I just ask you, what are the chances of finding a Louis Barbour chassis like yours ? are 2CV chassis's stamped with their number, just wondered how you go on with one with a replacement chassis, is it just like replacing an engine as far as the DVLA / SVA are concerned, I hope that makes sense

Hi, If you need a replacement chassis for your 2cv, the best by far is from Kan Hanna of SLC maybe direct or from Ecas 2 cv parts. There are others, won’t name them but avoid. Louis Barbour is now based in Croatia, he fabricates chassis for a 4x4 design or a Raid chassis if you ask . The later A series have the chassis number stamped in on the Front leg near the drive shaft (offside in UK terms), early cars have a plate riveted to the chassis same side but further back. They is should also a plate on the bulkhead that has corresponding numbers. As far as DVLA are concerned replacement “Pattern” ie same a the original chassis are ok, but to keep things easy cut the number, from your old chassis and reweld on new chassis and make “tidy”.....if you have the riveted plate use that. For the past 3 years my MOT guys check the chassis number each time. Cheers Peter

Thank you for confirming my thoughts / understanding of 2CV's with a replacement chassis.
