Long story short. Put a cheeky lowish bid on this car back in february in an auction, assuming some Merc nut would swoop in and save me from my myself, before.promptly forgetting about the car, as life rolled on.....
Fate is a cruel mistress.
Several weeks later, ironically whilst in the middle of a defensive action with my better half, who was once agian pointing out that my car buying was threatening to get out of control ("9 is not too many!?!") the email arrived teling me I was now the proud owner of a 5L 80s icon. DAMN. Guilty you honour.
Several more weeks passed before number 10 arrived on the driveway after a quick tour to the MOT centre where it obviously failed its MOT.
I should at this point clarify that I do not have a driveway large enough to park 10 cars. So I secrete them at various garages, relatives houses etc....(which in my defence is why its soo easy to loose count🙈🙉🙊) I have a passion for Volvo 850 T5s and Rs, they are (or were) ludicrously cheap & thus I felt justified to buy as many as I possibly could, restoring and selling on to fellow enthusiasts to fund my unfortunate additiction to Swedish Crack. Not a typo - probably.
Anyway, back the merc...
Its a 1983 C126 500SEC with the 5L lump and auto box. Covered just under 90k in its 38 years, most of which have been pampered, until it went into dry stoeage 12 years ago, which became wet storage last winter when the car changed hands proor to going to auction.
Bodywork is great, mechanically sound, just needs a bloody good going over, inside and out, ready to hit the open road next spring.
Hopefully!!
Cheers for reading, photos & updates to follow.
