	So after spending far too long without an old merc I bought this 1998 W202 from another RR member in Essex Thanks to Dave aka tettleysmooth for his honest description of the car, in his words not perfect but very good I’d agree with that , it’s a tidy car needing some love As anybody who has followed any of my car threads will know I’ve never professed to being a full in car restorer, more of a saver of older cars, I really like the W202 cars and wish I’d never sold my 250TD a few years back This is W202 number five for me now And I’d like to do a sympathetic refresh on it over the next few months, will I keep this one ?? Well a mint car is out there somewhere totally unrestored and that is my long term aim, So for now I’m happy to give this one plenty of love over the next few months Pics tomorrow when I intend to claybar and detail the car and deep clean the interior , no lowering or any other mods planned , just bring it back to life and looking fresh again

	A few small rust scabs I’m going to deal with The car is just at that stage In it’s life Get on top of the small bits and keep a good old car on the road, I’d rather do that than take finance on some mundane new car, I’ve just bought the wife a new car I just don’t need a modern car in my life!

	Early start this morning, removal of the chrome tat on the boot lid Why do people fit chrome curse word ??!! And plenty if mastic to hold it on, getting there with the trusty heat gun, new badges ordered all oem fitment Plenty more to do today Sticker removal done too Will order some decent pressed steel number plates today

	Well that turned out a good days work Managed to get all that mastic sealer off the boot lid trim Claybarred then waxed the bodywork, another small touch I always do on these is strip the front grille down and spray the insert black Always looks better in my opinion, interior spruce up tomorrow, I’ve cleaned up the engine bay today as well Overall not a perfect car but tidy enough for daily winter use now.....oh and I ordered some nice pressed steel number plates to replace those awful ones on it now

	D'you know Dan, I didn't know that chrome strip on the boot wasn't supposed to be there. It was on there when I bought it. Nice to see it getting some love. And its replacement: The body mouldings have been treated with boiled linseed oil since this photo was taken. Drove it home today. Needs some bits doing mind.

	That rear seat really needed it. I had one bash at the coffee stain, but I wasn't entirely successful. It happened when when I was in Lincolns Inn Fields in central London in the van. I was delivering a chair to the Royal College of Surgeons. It was really quiet, so I thought I'd take a liberty and have a coffee out of my flask. I was so busy watching for traffic wardens that I didn't replace the stopper correctly. It must have leaked in the van, but I didn't notice it, and it continued to leak after I put my bag on the back seat of the Merc when I went home. I was gutted when I saw it. Hopefully the wet vac has got the stain out.

	Yep Dave turned out to be a decent fella and was totally accurate with his description of the car I would definitely buy from him again if he had another car I was interested in Great to meet another decent RR member
