JAGUAR X300 XJ 3.2 EXECUTIVE - 216 BHP
AUTOMATIC
1997 ‘P’ REGISTRATION
RARE BRITISH RACING GREEN
FULL OATMEAL LEATHER
6 MONTHS MOT UNTIL MARCH 2021
For sale is my Jaguar XJ 3.2 Executive. This chassis is referred to as the X300 model, and known the be the most durable of all the XJs with the bullet proof engines.
In my opinion, it is finished in the best colour for an XJ - British Racing Green.
This particular Jag has a celebrity status - the previous owner was Frank Harper - of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels / Football Factory / St. Georges Day / The Calcium Kid / This is England fame. He is best known for his role as Billy Bright in The Football Factory. His name is on the logbook!
As he played naughty characters in those films, it is fitting this Jag is associated with, and was owned by him!
He also appeared in various programmes, including The Bill, Doctors, Dubplate Drama, Lovejoy, Ripper Street, etc.
Specification includes:
British Racing Green with Full Oatmeal Leather Interior, 17" Genuine XK8 Revolver Alloy Wheels, Electric Front Seats, Wooden Leather-Stitched Steering Wheel, Leather-Stitched Centre Console, Walnut Burr Wood Trim, Air Conditioning, Digital Climate Control, Electric Windows x 4, Power Steering, Central Locking, Alarm & Immobiliser, Full Jaguar Tool Kit in Engine Bay, Space Saver Spare Wheel, Heavy Duty Yuasa Battery
The car is mechanically sound, and drives like an XJ should. It starts first time, and idles in the correct manner. There is no overheating. It gets to the optimum temperature and sits there. Excellent Oil Pressure. Voltage as it should be. Exhausts are solid, with none of the usual blows or leaks.
It has has a performance air filter fitted (original air box housing is included in the sale).
'AJ16’ / 3239cc / Straight Six / 24 Valve / 216 BHP / 140+ MPH
It has the legendary and robust 'AJ16" 3.2 litre straight-six engine. This has plenty of power and low-down torque. Pulls well throughout the rev range, with no hesitation or power loss. The V8 engines are also smooth, but they suffer from various components failures. These six cylinder units can trace their blood line back to the 50s Jags, and go on forever.
The gearbox is good and the gears change as they should. Jaguar really did get the gearboxes good. Goes through all the ratios fine and kicks down with no shuddering.
Suspension is smooth and composed - irons out all bumps and anomalies in the road. It truly is a magic carpet type ride in this car. However, for a large car, it still handles impressively well and you can confidently throw it into corners at speed. It's no Lotus Elise, but will surprise you with how it behaves.
The brakes are fine. They stop this car well and there is no noticeable shuddering or pulling to one side.
The tyres are decent. They have plenty of life left. There is a whine from a rear wheel bearing, only really noticeable at low speeds.
Being an upmarket model, it is built to a high quality standard and you can appreciate this from the fit and finish. It is a pleasure to drive and long journeys are completed with ease - you get out at the other end feeling refreshed. Anyone who goes for a spin in the car always give positive comments about how it drives and also on the classic appearance of the interior.
Everything works as it should, which is to be expected from a car which cost over £40k when new. Occasionally the seatbelt warning light comes on which is usually a loose connection under the seat. There are currently no other warning lights on the dashboard cluster.
There is a Kenwood CD / MP3 head unit system. You can connect an AUX input cable to this, and then stream music from your phone.
The car is in presentable condition, but it does suffer from the usual defects from this era of XJ: the bonnet and roof paint has gone flat. Someone has painted some areas of the car in the past, and if I'm honest, it is not the best job. Lower part of the OSR wheel arch is a slightly lighter shade of green from a past repair. Remarkably, there is no rust or rot on the body (apart from a few tiny scabs) – it is solid, especially compared to many others out there. There are marks, blemishes and stone chips as to be expected on a 20 year old car. The bumpers have a few scuffs on the corners and the NSF door has a couple of dents. A couple of the alloys have some bubbling. The chrome strip on the bumpers is beginning to bow in places. It is not new or perfect, but still looks special and classy - no one would think you paid less than £2.5k for this lump of metal!
Remember, the paintwork is easier to rectify than repairing rust issues. And most of these X300s have lots of rust, especially on the rear arches, sills and front wings. Of all the Jags I have had, this is one if the cleanest in terms of corrosion - the body is pretty much rot free.
Finished off with a set of lovely and genuine Jaguar 17" XK8 Revolver Alloy Wheels. These really suit the car, and can sell for upwards of £500 a set on eBay!
The interior of this car is in good order, with no rips or tears. There's some wear to the driver's seat bolster. Everything is tight and solid. The seats are comfortable, and the front ones adjust electrically. There is an abundance of wood and leather everywhere, as well as some nice chrome touches. LCD clock doesn't work (show me one that does!). Headlining is sagging in places.
Grab a bargain - prices of decent X300s are steadily increasing, and won't be this money for long. And one with celebrity ownership attached, is even more appealing and can only increase its future value!
