A genuine Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 pre Custom in splendid restored condition.
EQUIPMENT
Polyurethane front end incorporating four Cibie quartz halogen headlamps, front air dam, rubberised tail spoiler, twin bodyside coachline, RS2000 decals, black door mirrors, laminated windscreen, hazard warning flashers, heated rear window, separate fuel, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, padded sun visors, two-speed heater, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents, centre console, glovebox, quartz clock, full trimmed door cards, cut pile carpeting, vanity mirror. Dealer fitted accessory; Sunroof.
EXTERIOR
The exterior of this RS2000 is finished in factory correct Signal Yellow, (Code 9), which boasts a stunning shine and uniform finish. The polyurethane droop snoot is straight housing a set of four crystal clear Cibie 60/55W quartz-halogen headlamps. Genuine Altissimo rear light clusters are fitted and all trim sections are in good order. A later front grille with the blue oval badge and RS2000 decals on the rear quarters are fitted and all badges are in excellent order. The vehicle still has the correct plain Sekurit glass fitted as standard to early cars which is all number plate etched. A spotless colour coded underside reveals the excellent workmanship and will reassure this car is the real deal.
INTERIOR
A clean, functional and nostalgic Ford interior awaits the next Boy Racer! Perfect Recaro fishnet seats finished in Black Beta Cloth, (Code A8), are tight and retain all structure and now replace the Scheel items. The matching black cut pile carpets and black headlining are in excellent condition and the original door cards have speakers fitted and a repair to the remote mirror section. The black padded dash top is unmarked and houses the desirable early 120mph speedo with white needles. The speedo reading is inaccurate when driving and the Ford quartz clock is inoperative. The heater fan works on both settings and all dash lights illuminate. The boot area is perfectly clean with a replacement boot carpet covering the spare wheel and Ford jack. The retaining metal bracket to the boot floor to secure the spare wheel via the the rubber strap only fitted to RS models is present. Altogether a complete Ford RS cockpit but not period perfect.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1993cc SOHC engine remains fitted to this vehicle with standard features such as the Ford plastic air box cover and twin-choke Weber 32DGAV carburettor. The engine bay is very clean with original factory chassis and body plates still attached. The black plastic bulkhead cover all still in place and a four-branch performance manifold is fitted sounding glorious. Performance figures of 108.2mph top speed and 0-60 in just 8.5 seconds are quoted and despatched through a Type-9 Ford five-speed gearbox for comfortable cruising.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS Ronal alloy road wheels correctly date stamped and in excellent order are shod in branded 185/70 R13 tyres showing plenty of tread. RS centre caps are all present. Vacuum servo assisted front disc brakes with rear drums brakes offer fair braking but fall short of modern standards.
HISTORY FILE
Built on the Saarlouis production line in January 1977 and first registered on 1st March 1977 this example has remained in the same family for over two decades. The present owner, James Waterfall, purchased the vehicle from his brother in 2008 and embarked on a full restoration. His brother purchased this car along with a Mk2 Ford Escort Mexico in an era when values were negligible and scrapped the Mexico due to the work required! Hindsight proves this to be a mistake but fortunately the RS2000 was in much better condition so he kept it. Never finding the time to start working on it, his brother, an experienced fabricator and Stock Car Racer, took the car on with renewed motivation. The end result is a testament to his skill and workmanship. Photos exist of the work with some invoices but there is no early history. Ready for someone else to enjoy the benefits of years of hard work, dedication and expertise.
MOT October 2021, HPI Clear.
