How well did it banger? It looks like the wheels are quite vulnerable As said if you hadn’t done this it would be rusting in a hedge still, but it did look very tidy in those photos

Mega just mega..let's be honest no one was going to "restore" it. It had been in that hedge more than a few week. If someone wanted to save it they could have before you. You parted with your hard earned and gave it a last go. Made me laugh a few years back when someone raced a type 2 transporter at Stan woods meeting and the VW brigade nearly imploded with anger haha. I'd love a go at Banger racing, few of my mates race. Problem is my local track (2 minutes up road) is Brampton.. and chances of some nutcase following me into fist corner and folding me in half is quite high haha. Maybe summat to do when I'm a bit older and can afford to be off work haha. Dan Buckley raced the type 2 bus the year after this first raced. It ran a Ford ka engine and gearbox. But to get the gear linkage to face the front he rotated the gearbox 180* on the input shaft. The gear selector was all backwards but was a outside the box solution. Yeah our local track warton is a bit savage too. Unfortunatly the older you get the less your bones bend. Hence braking all my ribs and sturnam I retired.

I amazed at the efforts you lads go to, to then smash the sh1t out of em. By the time it was painted black I’d be chucking some plywood floors in the driving it on the street. It was tempting. No mot or tax. I did have the original body tag and looked in to applying for a v5. But ment getting the owners club to come verify it was legit. Seemed like a rabbit hole was beginning to open.

How bad is what’s left? I have a spare Carte gris for a C4... it could happen.

It handled like a pig but it was surprising strong. The wheels did take quite a hammering. But as long as you hit things square on the bumpers took the abuse.

It’s actually used for advertisement on top of the office of a local classic scrapyard. I can send you the details if you like. I’d actually like to see what you could do with it.

How awesome would that be.

Would love to see it on the road still signed up and in banger spec with the bare minimum done to meet the legal requirements. Like those road legal F2 stockcars. How old was the Dodge with the wooden wheels that was raced at one Stan Woods?

I'm amazed at the effort put into these cars just before they are smashed up, it looked good. Imagine the Wacky Races' Ant Hill Mob being tail ended by another rarity a Bedford Beagle Caravanette. Guinness book of records??

People complain and witter on about saving them. Fairly obvious that it was beyond saving. Fair play to Coward as it looks like the car, but is a specialist built banger that is good for racing, not the road.

Tough looking rod that It was the one me, HARDCORE and mantaphil went on a silly trip to France for. Funded by that woman driving into my Hudson and the subsequent insurance payout. I don’t have a huge amount of pics as it was a couple of phones ago.

There was a 1928 dodge double six (with wooden wheels) raced at the 2004 firecracker at arena Essex back in 2004. 76 yr old when raced. The Citroen was first raced in 2017 so 89 yr old when raced.
