It has been a short while, so time for an update I think. Nothing major has changed since the last post, I actually got round to painting my boot floor- around 79 coats of gloss black, maybe 43 coats of Lacquer? That should prevent chips Actually I realise now that I have done a lot of Paintwork over the past few months, I found that the faded Vermillion red that is on the car is the same code as Fiat Red Orange! OSR wing was bad so I refinished that: I repainted the bulkhead at the master cylinders (also replaced the wiper motor as mine had conked out): Just the other day I finally got round to sorting out some bad filler work to my OSF wing: I bought a set of wheels a few weeks ago too, Yokohama Advan A3As, these are some of my favourite wheels of all time, and I'm currently collecting together the resources to fit them to my Spitfire (PCD adaptors, uprated studs/nuts, etc), will be a little bit different to see this style of Japanese 3-piece rim on a Triumph and I'm very excited to enrage the purists even more than I already have. (I am in the middle of restoring them too) In the meantime of all this work, I replaced the rear drums/shoes, as well as a seized wheel cylinder. I also managed to get it insured a couple of weeks ago and have since driven around 80 miles, It hasn't skipped a beat which I am ecstatic to say. I'll be ready to take it on trips further afield after I bleed the brakes properly. That's all for now folks! Hopefully I'll be putting some more pictures up in the coming weeks after the trial fitment of my new wheels!

Hello all! Quick update: I finally received a pair of PCD adaptors a couple of days ago, had a quick test fit of one of the A3As that I have repainted/finished. I haven't yet checked the fitment on the front axle, but I'm dreading it, I have a feeling that I am going to have to do a lot of work to the wing to get it nice and flush, without any poke. Happy with how the 6" wide Wheels fit at the back though. I'll see how it looks after test fitting with tyres and getting it rolling on them soon, I am considering getting the rears relipped to 7", adding an inch onto the outside lips. All in good time! Hopefully I will be back soon with pictures of it on the ground!

Liking the look of the A3A on the back, very different and fresh looking. Seeing as you are introducing a ‘Japanese’ touch have you considered some wheel arch extensions?
Keep up the awesome work......

Keep up the awesome work...... Thanks a lot for the kind words! I have considered that, I think I have some of those ABS extension things kicking around somewhere, my main concern is about spoiling the lines of the car, I wouldn't be that bothered about it except that the lines are so integral to the overall look of the car. I'll dig them out and see what I can do, I'll have to think about a solution anyway, as I have checked the front and the rim pokes out a lot! I could try to do a smooth "widebody", using fibreglass to make something that compliments the overall style of the car, I've been collecting pictures from similar era cars with similar sized wheels/fitment for inspiration!

I thought it would take a lot longer, but I finally did it. A3As got tyres fitted this evening, so i informed insurance and pulled the trigger on fitting them. (Got the camera out obviously, snapped/edited a few pictures quickly) Thought you all might want to see them from different angles, so there's the spam over! A couple of notes: 1) The tyres are very chunky at the moment, I reused the tyres from my old wheels for costcutting reasons. I think I will go for some that are slightly smaller when I have the funds. 2) Kind of an extension of 1, because the tyres are so big, I had to roll the arches, they were rubbing a lot when I first got it rolling! So excited to start work on the fronts, need to get the wheels acid dipped, then start coming up with a solution for the 'width issue'.

Looks like you have a pair of Hoosier’s on the back ready for the drag strip.... absolutely love it! Now, that front number plate, have you thought of going etype and putting it on the bonnet? I’m thinking of doing the same with the MX5 once it returns from paint!

I’m thinking of doing the same with the MX5 once it returns from paint! Slow reply, I apologise! I like the chunky tyres too, gives it some "aggressiveness" or something. As for number plates, I'm not sure yet, I need a new one as this hasn't lasted well at all (protip- don't buy a number plate off a dodgy guy at Santa Pod). I don't really like the look of the ones on the bonnet so I'm considering getting a smaller one made up, and just replacing the one I have.

Good evening!.. or Morning, It's currently quarter to 1 as I write! Updates! I finally got round to ordering the bits I need to fit my Advans to the front! The solution in the end was to fit 155/80/13s to the front wheels, utilise some camber shims on the lower wishbones to tuck the wheels in a little bit, and cut the bonnet up a small amount (nothing visible don't worry!). The first time I fitted the wheels up I decided to take the spring out, just to see how it'd look on the floor I quite liked it, then proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon staring! It convinced me that I should invest in a set of adjustable height shocks for the front, so I can go at least a little lower (if not that low), Once again I am waiting for work invoices to be paid (and actual work), then I'll be able to get some ordered! For now though, I present my spitfire after a short drive out the other day, at only slightly less than stock height. Absolutely adore how well the Advans came out. Almost perfect fitment too, if I do say so myself! Still an absolute pleasure to drive too, even in the scorching heat, hasn't skipped a beat! No tyre rub either! On the lookout now for a single 4x114.3 wheel, ideally 6x13, could consider an interesting 6x14, to use as a spare. Let me know! Trying to sell my old Wellers (4x95.25mm 5.5x13") too (see pictures elsewhere in thread), looking for £150 +postage money, Based in Nottingham so I am around if people wanted to collect. Thanks for sticking with me!

Looks class, great height and the wheels suit it perfectly. Really cool, great it's been running in the heat too! Makes me want a spit again (or just get my mojo back on the bl**dy herald lol).

Cheers! I'm so happy with it, the performance is great. Get on with the herald! You won't regret it, especially with the good weather we are having.

So, It's been a long time, Sadly it'll be the last time too. Since the last update, I have been so busy with uni work that I haven't been able to post. I spent the past year dailying the Spitfire (It has been amazing), lots of repairs have been made to it, as and when problems have arisen. It's gone through the trunnions, a headgasket, a clutch, a diff, a fuel tank and an exhaust too. That isn't even everything! It has been an expensive year for me, no regrets though! Managed to meet up with a good friend and get some proper pictures last easter, now the Spitfire has been retired for me and is up for sale, such an amazing drive and will be remembered fondly for years to come (as my first car, and my first daily driver). Now I need something a little bigger (to be exact, something that will fit a cello inside), but looking for something equally as classic, so there should be a new thread appearing at some point when I find out what. Here's the link for my advert! forum.retro-rides.org/thread/223256/1979-triumph-spitfire-1500-nottinghamI will definitely be getting another triumph in the future, as they are such an understated brand, and so enjoyable to drive. but here's to the future.
