Yeah made it home in one piece, no more bits fell off,.. I played a game of 3,000* on the motorway to occupy my time, and stop myself killing my engine and making it smoke again ! Looks like I'll miss Wales & West meeting though because I'm going to have to track down and sort out the oil leak, and fixup the wheel arch more perminantly! Thanks for stopping and checking all was okay,.. now where I can I source and Audi engine for the golf -David * 3,000 being the rpm I was sticking to....

Sounds bad! Hope things are OK. You're looking at it the right way though - good excuse for an engine transplant! ;D

What went wrong? Surely not let down by that legendary VW reliability / quality? ( ;D) Engines done 123k+ miles ,.. so is a little long in the tooth. Its got low compression on one cylinder (worn piston (which I'm not going to fix)) and its got an oil leak somewhere. In addition the front bumper keeps catching on the drop out of our drive, yesterday it unclipped the wheel arch liner. I didn't find this out until half way up the M5 when it went spinning away in my rear view mirror,.. closely followed by the sound of what was left dragging on the road. Still I made it in one piece, there and back. Today I shall be tracking down my oil leak and securing the wheel arch, whilst I order a wheel arch liner. I may even clean and wash the car then again : cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4510519639cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4510559315cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4511660398

It was good to meet you Hairnet600, and good to see you again HoTWire.... They eventually stuck the Golf on the rollers, after leaving the engine running for what must have been a good couple of hours! ha ha! Was making 160bhp at the wheels (I think) lots of noise, and lots of smoke
