Aside from a few pinto parts nothing is common with the sierra, brake, suspension consumables etc are still widely available and reasonably priced though. Threres also quite a bit of upgrade stuff around because of the wide use of cortina donor in kit cars etc and some is common with escort and capri. Trim and electrical stuff is more difficult but I would be inclined to transfer the whole lot bar lights from the donor mazda which is cheap reliable and easily availale. I am planning to strip this right back to get it lightweight and able to handle the MX5 lumps and box in a way that is entertaining. So swapping away is not planned. No trim needed, and hopefully as little as possible electrical stuff needed.

Agreed, mechanical bits are quite different to a Sierra but are still pretty straightforward to get hold of. As far as electrical bits I’ve got some spare column stalks kicking around that I didn’t use on the 100E if they’re of use. Was hoping to get to the farm today for a rummage through my spares but it didn’t happen You are my hero. But then my policy is also that if someone needs it more than me, they need to use it and have it. When Nicola left me, I told her to take anything she needed from the house and to buy anything new that she needed for her new life. Amazingly she took only what she needed, and bought what she needed. So I did not feel in any way that she had been spiteful, and we continue to be friends. Love to know what is in your stash..... love a hoard.

I was thinking along the lines of only using the mx5 parts you need (injection system, lights, wipers, horn, fuel tank?, heater? etc ), after that long in the open I can't imagine the wiring in your car will be much use. I would take the mx5 loom, strip off the tape and replace with tie straps, then lay it in the jeep connect, everything you need work out where best to mount the items, make sure it all works then strip the rest of the wiring out.

I can only shake my head at guys like you..... My mate Andy in Tulsa can do this magic too. I have looked at the wiring today while cleaning it up. There is also a Moss alarm included, so good chance it is all screwed up. Simple is the way to go.

I think the approach to the wiring and accessories depends entirely on what you find once you properly investigate what you have.
If what you have is an almighty lash-up of hacked Cortina loom, scotchlocks, insulating tape, non-working electrical kit, gauges and scrap, then make a decision about exactly what you want to end up with before you start spending money. Particularly as the Mazda donor doesn't exist as a complete and running car for you to rob bits off and you would have to buy them all in. If the Eagle already has a decent loom, then all you need to do is recommission it and add the necessary bits to get the Mazda engine running. It's not (Rezin) Rocket science.
Whatever, you're unlikely to be using enough Mazda bits to justify using/modifying a MX-5 loom; it would be easier to start from scratch. I would guess, for instance, that the Eagle has a standard Lucas cable rack and wheel box wiper setup, which is a cheap and easily fixed item if it's in need of attention. You also have the gauges Craig gave you and the ones that are in the car. Other than that, the lights and (maybe) a heater, there's nothing else to power. It's not like you're going to want electric windows, AC, heated mirrors/screen/seats and all the extra stuff the Mazda comes with.

I'll look at the existing wiring when I bring you that book and relieve you of the mower. If I think it's salvageable, or scrap, I'll tell you.

So I went to town this morning to see if I could get some used tyres fitted to the alloys Bill got me. Also saw this, sign of the times. So I got the wheels sorted for a “drink” as the shop was empty, and to be honest, the tyre shops pay for disposal of used tyres. 5 minutes, in and out. Mate Craig collected my 50p purchase for me. 500kg capacity, means lifting The front or rear individually/independently on the Rezin Rockit is easy to do. Back home the new wheels could go onto the Rockit, removing the steels that really we’re not quite delivering. I also, knocked out the Stud that had been broken off. Will replace it and the two from the rear hub. Of course stuff like the brake,Cali per, broken off, along with its brake line, needs refurbishment and replace ing. So much work to be done to get this Nack on the road. Rough as a badgers butt. Right.... Any cartoonist or commercial type artist on here? I really like these designs. But I would like a naive logo for the Rezin Rockit that represents all of this, the Jeep roots etc. PM me if you know someone clever and artistic please.

Are you going to do a loop to Craig’s to fetch the tractor at the same time? If so....... 🧩 Putting a puzzle together, could mean me asking you to pick up the bike lift while you are there. If not, we will figure it all out, and the kettle is still on 😉 It will be good to have you over here too.

I have ended up talking to craigrk three times today, and one of the things I said to him was that when I say Basic, I mean Beach Buggy basic. No roof, no air con, no electric windows etc. So you seem to have it down in one. Basic.

The problem with the mazda is things like the temp gauge and tacho are driven off the ecm, If you are keeping the fuel injection unfortunately there is going to have to be a fair bit of complexity.
You can get carb manifolds for the 1.8 though.

Let’s hope that regardless, I can do it, with help, guidance, advice etc. It will be nice getting it right though. I have a lot to learn

The problem with the mazda is things like the temp gauge and tacho are driven off the ecm, If you are keeping the fuel injection unfortunately there is going to have to be a fair bit of complexity. You can get carb manifolds for the 1.8 though. There’s ways around it though. You don’t need a tacho, or you can run one off the alternator. Temp gauge can be fed from a sensor in the top hose or the radiator at a push, and to be honest, you can manage without one of those too if there’s really nowhere to put a sender. As I understand it, the proposed engine and gearbox is being supplied at the “right” price. If it turns out that the cost/complexity of getting it running turns it into the “wrong” price then there’s plenty of other options out there to turn petrol to spinny-roundy goodness. As I keep saying, investigation of what you have, and research into what you can do with it, before jumping into the old wallet, is the order of the day. It might reveal an easy solution to getting the MX-5 lump running, or alternatively end up highlighting that a different engine and gearbox would be the way to go. Regardless, you’ve got the basis of the look that you want, in a package that just needs spannering and spending. You haven’t got months of welding, searching the globe for obsolete panels, and a fortune to spend on trim and paint. You’ve got a kit car, designed and built by a couple of blokes in a barn, assembled by another bloke on his driveway. Short of a Model T there’s not much out there that’s more basic than Cortina running gear, and all the rest of it is either standard Ford, BL and Lucas parts bin stuff, or generic “universal” kit that could be replaced with whatever you have to hand. If your final vision is a stripped back, minimalist, no-frills, buggy style toy/weapon/hysterical-laughter-inducer, then you’re already most of the way there. 👍👍 Edit: Yes, as and when I can get over to Craig’s for the tractor/mower I’ll bring that lift back. Edit again: Nineteen blimmin pages! 🤣

It’s a very enjoyable task cleaning off years of grime - just like what I did on the ally canopy a couple of weeks ago. That domestos bleach gel is a good trick to know.

Still trying to catch back up to real time. Only 16 hours behind now. Getting some tidying up done was high on the agenda. Found some interesting “details” in the design and build. Can you see it? I also removed most of the original radio and interior light, rear view mirror mess. Need to try get these two parallel bars out as well, Bill whacked his head on them twice, I am still due to do it. Also removed most of the seatbelts and mounts from the rear, and despite the bloody long bar, still could not get the roll bar shifted. The seat belt cassettes are on the same mounts. Will try again today when it warms up, and after the bleach job. Certainly do not want or like this bull bar. Heavy and unsightly, plus rusted through under plastic coating. And if it is on a diet, this will help. Some serious bolts keeping it all together. Better? Other side? The moss stains were really resistant. Last bit. Anyone know what these lights are from? Body and internals on this one rotted away completely, so need replacing. I prefer to replace like for like. Lens after cleaning out the rust stains. Certainly can be refitted. Actually pleased that I could also do the whole engine bay, behind the grille, under the hood etc. Does my butt look big in this? From up high. Not that there is any money, but yesterday’s Money Shot. Some change so far. So, now it is Sunday 9.25 and the next job is a coffee, walk around the Rezin Rockit for some silly grinning and dreaming. Then get on with the bleach. Followed by one more run with the pressure cleaner. Anyone see hope? .

I reckon you’ve added enough value just by cleaning it, to break even on your costs so far if you decide to pull the plug.
Looks so much better without the bull bar.
