1971 Datsun 521 pickup, rear wheel drive, imported from California 7 years ago. Tax/Mot exempt
Its Original paint, with patina and a few dents and dings, but straight and never welded anywhere. Only the wings have been replaced by the last owner in the USA.
I believe there are only a few in the country, they were never produced for the uk market. Service parts, engine parts, other bits, readily available in the States via Rock Auto etc.
Its been lowered by using 3" blocks on the rear, and reindexing the torsion bar front suspension.
Fitted new KYB performance shocks on the front and back.
Wheels are old school genuine Wolfrace slot mags' 6 stud, with painted centres in 'ford Roman bronze'. It also comes with the 4 original Datsun steels.
It runs the original drum brakes all round, they are 10" and stop it well.
Engine and gearbox were upgraded and replaced at 94180 miles, just over 2 years ago.
Now has a 5 speed FS5W71B manual gearbox, instead of the stock 4 speed. The stock L16 engine has been replaced by an L20b, a later 2 litre engine of the same straight 4 family.
The L20b has been fully rebuilt, skimmed and balanced, and 2mm overbored cylinders. Pistons are 'off the shelf' 1mm oversize 280z.
Rebuild work was carried out professionally.
A brand new 32/36 progressive Weber carburettor was also fitted, with the intake manifold ported to it.
Bench seat was reupholstered just before it was imported.
Grant steering wheel fitted, tacho on the steering column.
SilentCoat sound/vibration deadening in the cab, under the carpet.
I have owned this awesome truck for under a year and after driving it home from Wales it has remained in the garage. Unfortunately its just not the right time in life for me to own this super cool classic.
