That looks in fine fettle for a car sat for 20 years.

Hi,
I had one very similar to that one about a million years ago. Mine was a very early '82 Auto which I bought from a friend at work. Mine was pale metallic blue with re-trimmed leather seats, but the rest of the spec was exactly like the one you have, right down to the cookie cutter wheels and slotted rear valance.
I really enjoyed mine, despite it having the 3-speed (!) Auto transmission. It was great to drive, and always attracted attention (handy when you need a lane-hog to move over on the Motorway). I once snapped the transmission selector cable, and had to order a replacement from Germany, as there were none available in the UK. The factory only had 2 left...
The brakes and steering take a bit of getting used to if you've just stepped out of an over-assisted modern car. I left my braking a little late approaching a roundabout just after I picked mine up, and didn't press the pedal hard enough. Entering the roundabout with rather a lot of speed, the back end stepped out and I somehow caught it and carried on. To a bystander, I probably looked like I was showing off, but in reality I drove slowly home and had to lie down for a bit.
Despite having a galvanized body, it can still rust around the seams, particularly on the sills just behind the door openings. Mine was starting to go here just before I sold it. The other rusty place I had was the battery tray. You know this has happened, because it sits directly above the passenger's feet, and rainwater can run straight in and soak the carpet.
I had the cylinder head re-built by a local specialist, as the valve guides had worn. It also went through a couple of CV joints on the rear axle. Other than that, it was mechanically very sound, and the only other issues I had were as a result of slightly crashing it on black ice on the way to work.
One other tip from me: if the big rear glass hatch closes and locks reasonably well, leave it alone. It's possible to spend hours adjusting it, only to make it worse and constantly have to stop and get out to re-close it...
Enjoy!

Says Tax Due 1st Feb 2000 (not on a SORN) so the RK might get a surprise if he's not careful!
These types of car are interesting as they're not on the radar of stuff like "How Many Left", which lots of people use like an irrefutable source of info.
