My tow vehicle of choice is going to be one of the above but I have a specification in my head of how it wants to look. Some of the above came with a type of Heckenblende (spellingš¤) and that's what I want. What I wonder is are the rear lights all the same through the range with interchangeable tailgate??

I think the tailgate, being a large item, will be basically interchangeable, but with the add on bit, plastics and trim possibly making it more Ford/VW/Seat My preference is the Seat look overall, but they all have the same capacity if, like me you remove all the seats and store them, making it into a decent van. Looking forward to seeing what you make of it.

It's the Seat with the largest lights.
All have VW engines and are 5x112 (not sure if Ford used any of their petrol lumps) 1.9tdi/V(R)6/1.8t are all VW

Looks to me the cut out for the rear lights in the body is different ...very top pictures blue car has square lights on the side and the 2 silver have curved and the blue one has a higher cut out on the hatch the other 2 have a straight line across the top from reflector into lights which is easier to see on the silver and green cars directly above.

The top galaxy is a MK1 The other 2 are MK2 shape (2000-07 I think) They are completely different cars but do share a few mechanical parts

Cheers Grizz, how are you finding it? What is the mpg like? Right...... Here goes. Galaxy is for sale, 24/7 BASIC OWNERSHIP REPORT. I bought it to replace Prozac the 1.4 petrol Berlingo to get a bigger load capacity and towbar for the C10 resto, and to move stuff about. The Berlingo was filled with character, personality, surprises and I loved it every day, it was just a bit small. I do miss it. The Galaxy is bloody brilliant, does everything I want it to, tows a trailer absolutely brilliantly. Like it was not there. It is a 2.3 litre petrol, auto box, the motors are apparently liked by certain racer types. The way it works with the transmission makes it absolutely unstressed, and at 107k miles, I would say it will do another 100k without missing a beat, they are known to be pretty robust engines. It likes a bit of fossil fuel, but driving 5.7 litre Americans, I am not bothered about consumption AT ALL No idea what the consumption actually is like, and not interested in finding out. It certainly is not a 1.2 litre or a diesel like my 1.5 Zeneca Focus which runs on the smell of an oil rag. Driving position is brilliant, high and comfortable. Overall, finish and plastics are shiite relative to a new, modern car, but for a Ā£700.00 car/skip/van there is no reason to complain, it is perfectly functional. If you look at the MOT history on mine, it is clean and was well looked after over time. I spent Ā£500 on a service, which included new brake discs, pads etc when I got it, which one will not get back. I would much rather have a simple Ford Courier 2x4 or Mazda B2600 on my drive but there were none for sale when I was looking, plus the Galaxy minus the rear seats, which are in storage, gives a very large, secure load area. Hope that is useful. Would I buy it again, or one of its brothers, yes, for function, but no for inspiration. Thatās partly why I have not fitted the nice new wheels and tyres I have stored away, or fitted the lowering springs. 100% functional 100% uninspiring to me. Go buy one, or buy mine.

My family had a new Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi Ghia in 1996, in metallic blue, served us very well and was mostly reliable. Towed a large caravan with ease and with added airflow of the optional Ford roofbox (we nicknamed it the Slug) it made it excellent airflow for towing (the box was streamlined and sealed to the top of the windscreen also colour coded to match the car). Hugely versatile and borrowed by everyone (they weren't massively common back then). I had a search a few weeks back and found another Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI ghia MK1 for sale, Ā£500 and looked really nicely cared for (save for a dent in a wing) but it didn't hang around long. They seem to have all vanished from the market. I do recall seeing a Projekt Zwo kitted Sharan or Alhambra a few years back, looked awesome! Had a quick internet search and normally throws up some images linked to this forum forum.retro-rides.org/thread/123279/galaxy-all-rounder?page=2

I had one in manual form (2003 Ghia) and it was to be fair, pretty damn slow! Was a great vehicle though - just look out for rust on the rear arches. The Galaxy is, imho, the best looking of the variants, and seem to be the best value as well. It was quite funny lifting up the rear floor mats and seeing a VW item number on them.

I had a 1.9 tdi mk2 galaxy, just eats front tyres... was a bit rapid if pushed. Rust usually kills them or Too many electrical issues, usually from door shuts wiring being too short and breaking..

can't beat a car that's free and you know.
Mk1 versions tend to be few and far between i've noticed recently and none are ULEZ compliant i think so there might be a few leaving London soon....
