Hi i have for sale a 1972 VW Beetle. She is called poppy (not my choice of name, but was chosen by PO). I never really wanted to sell it, but i will soon lose storage of my landy, so the beetle needs to go to make space for it.
Few good points about the car;
-Useable as is (as useable as an old beetle is, anyway!)
-MOT/tax exempt (also classic insurance, which is very cheap-£110 a year for me)
-v5c in my name
-Seems to be solid in all the important places (top hat etc, inner arches look to have been properly welded before, no rot in roof etc)-but feel free to have a look for yourself when viewing the car
-Brakes work fine (pull slightly to one side under hard braking, but stops sharply enough)
-Electrics work fine (even the radio!)
-3 new tyres
-new battery
-1967 rear lights
-slight hesitation from cold, but ok when warm, so probably just carb/timing adjustment needed.
-blade fuse box conversion (easier to source and more reliable than old bullet type)
-electric washers, as opposed to the old spare tyre pressure system
-lowered on the front (dropped spindles)
-will include lowering plates for the rear at asking price)
-lots of various spares (h30/31 carb, fan housing, 4x wings, zoomtube exhaust, original wheels, original rear lights, original front spindles etc)
-also have a roofrack which can go with the car (needs painting)
Bad points;
-paint has been applied by hand, so is definitely not a professional finish!!
-sometimes rubs on the front, due to being lower at the front than the rear
-interior is tatty all round (seats are from a mystery car, but are comfy tbf! no headlining,cheap carpet, tatty doorcards etc)
-both doors are rotten at the bottom (repair panels widely available, as are replacement doors-also have half a tin of the same colour paint to go with the car)
-o/s door rubs on the running board (photo to show this)
-bonnet has a dent which has been filled by a PO. (Also few bits of filler here and there, but not excessive afaik-again, make your own judgement!)
In conclusion, it is a useable beetle you can drive home and reasonably expect to get there in one piece, and because it is handpainted and tatty, a good base to change to your own taste. But please remember, this is a 48 year old car, and is definitely described as rough and ready at best, but isnt a basketcase and would be a nice little beetle for someone,as it stops, goes, and doesnt seem to be rotten etc.
Any more questions or to come and view the car, my number is 07388921945.
Cheers, Ash
