First of all, apologies for my first post being a for sale thread.
Long time lurker on here and was at the first Goodwood weekender, the plan being to return the following year in the Moggy once I had completed the resto (very much inspired by the café racer thread), with a thread being put up on here. As ever though life had other plans (not for the first time either) and I have now accepted I probably won’t get it done so it’s time for it to move on.
As stated, it’s a 1959 Morris Minor (2 door saloon) running an MG Midget 1275 engine and 5 speed box with a few other upgrades including; front disc brakes, suspension upgrade, flashing indicators front and rear, converted to negative earth and alternator. All mods were done by the guy who owned it before the guy who I bought it off although apart from the engine most parts have been replaced during the approx 8 years I’ve owned it.
It was my daily driver for 3-4 years but was starting to need work (mechanical and bodywork) so was taken off the road and I bought a cheap runaround to tide me over, bought pretty much all the bits needed and all mechanical work was done including; replacing leaf springs, rear axle changed as diff was knackered, clutch changed and a new (re-con) gearbox fitted. Unfortunately stage 2 (bodywork) never happened and the car has been off the road since, I have most of the bits needed though which will be included with the sale – the only thing I don’t have is a repair panel for the rear boot floor, which ironically is the worst bit.
I’ve done a bit of work on the car recently, new points and condenser, new coil, new fuel pump and copper fuel line, freed brakes off, replaced indicator stalk switch and sorted a few bad earths so now it runs and drives and lights and signals work as they should.
I’ll list good points, bad points and what’s included with sale below.
Good Points
1275 MG Midget engine built to unleaded spec
Type 9 5 speed box with quick shift lever
Front disc brakes – non servo, I believe marina based but with minor pcd
Telescoping rear shocks
Flashing indicators front and rear
Alternator conversion
Lots of spares included with sale
Bad points
N/S chassis leg needs replacing
Both A pillars need replacing – due to play as a result of needing replacing the drivers door can be awkward to shut especially from inside
Floorpan section behind drivers seat needs replacing
Rear boot floor section needs replacing
Window rubbers and headlining could do with replacing
Seats/carpets a bit tatty
Chip in windscreen
Parts included
Chassis leg
Both A pillars
Floorpan section for behind driver
Complete set of window rubbers including chrome trim for windscreen
New headlining
Good second hand windscreen
Spare water pump and thermostat and possibly a few other mechanical bits
Also, if wanted pair of corbeau classic bucket seats on runners (black with red piping) on home made brackets the allow them to be bolted into existing holes in floor pan, these were in when I bought it and are comfortable but I wanted a more period look.
So, to sum up I appreciate it needs work and I am open to offers, though not daft ones. If you’re after a 1275 Minor with 5 speed etc it has to be cheaper to buy this and do the work needed than to buy a standard one that doesn't need work and then buy all the bits for the conversion separately.
Anyway, enough waffle pics below
